Hey now, both films are equally good in my eyes! The top 250 had always been BS.

I was wondering myself, about Carlos. It's why I've been waiting on a sale on their own site to buy that one (which, as I mentioned before, might happen very soon).

Imdb's top 250 carries no weight Imo. Having Seven Samurai at #18 is complete BS. Its top 5 material for me.

For many of these people TDKR may be the "best" film they see all year. Not to be a snob but some people view movies casually and amongst multi-plex drivel Nolan's films do standout.

The IMDB top 250 is a joke and not worth anyone's time. Most lists are a joke and flawed. Although, They Shoot Picture's list is more thought-out but rankings are meaningless, imo. It's a good list of films to watch if anything.

Hannah and Her Sisters is my absolute favourite Woody film. Also love Annie Hall, Manhattan, Husbands and Wives, Bananas, Crimes and Misdemeanours, etc.

I was never particularly fond of Purple Rose of Cairo for some strange reason. I think it's a bit too cute for me. The ending is great though.

Deconstructing Harry is the best post 80s Allen, IMO.

I have many of these. I love the Eclipse sets. I have 14 so far and will pick up a couple more before the sale is over. Glad to see you got the Larisa Shepitko set, it is one of my favorites, with two very fine and emotionally powerful films.

If you don't already have Eclipse 13: Kenji Mizoguchi's Fallen Women, I highly recommend it. All the films are very good, especially Women of the Night and Street of Shame. SOS is one of the best films I have ever seen. Too bad Criterion chose not to make these main line blu-ray releases, but the DVDs look very good.

Nicely put. I like to check in on imdb to see how populist a given film is. I also check in on RT and get excited for films critics were divided or positive on while the audience was generally negative, that's a pretty sweet spot more often than not: examples: The American, The Girlfriend Experience, Miami Vice, White Material, the New World, Something Wild...

I need to pick up the pace of my Eclipse set watching, especially the Japanese sets. I still need to watch Silent Ozu, Silent Naruse, Postwar Kurosawa, and the very first one I bought - Nikkatsu Noir. I have to add Late Ozu to the list, once it arrives. I had to order it on the first day of the sale since no B&N in the entire city had a copy.

Picked up Pearls of the Czech New Wave. This and the Ozu were my must buys, but I can afford a couple more.

Does anyone recommend - or not recommend - Eclipse 30: Sabu! ? I keep being tempted by this one every time I see it in the stores.

Picked up the David Lean set today. I've only seen one of his films (Lawrence of Arabia) so I plan on going through his whole filmography in chronological order. Can't wait! I'll probably start tonight.

With all this Woody Allen discussion I'm surprised no one has mentioned Midnight in Paris. I thought it was great and definitely one of his best.

As far as Woody Allen is concerned, my favorites are:

Annie Hall (favorite movie of all time)
Sleeper
Crimes and Misdemeanors
Vicky Christina Barcelona
Manhattan Murder Mystery
Mighty Aphrodite

(I'm more partial to those that Woody Allen actually stared in)

Also, although not my favorite, I really enjoy Scoop.... I feel that one is very underrated. I find it to be a really fun movie (and Scarlet is great in this movie. She and Woody have great chemistry in it)
