I agree i think the OP would be better off saving some dough and speand as much as the actual retail price of the RC-50 which over 1K anyways.

A great IA for the RC would make them sing again not sure what he OP is looking for in terms of sound or what he expects from them since they are very smooth in highs and mids usually

however if you are using the receiver for both HT and Music, then you may want to compare the Marantz to Onkyo, Harman Kardon, NAD as other options.
I like NAD IA Idea, HK I am not sure about their HDMI now seems to be alot better than in the past and they drive speakers quite nicely.

I'm new to the home theatre addiction. I have a quick noob question.

I have the Denon 891. It is rated at 105 watts per channel. I have a pair of CB-5's that I have for surrounds (haven't hooked them up yet) that are rated at 20-100 watts. Am I cool running them off of the 891?

Thanks in advance.......and be gentle!!

No wont be an issue at all your Denon does not in fact put out 105 wpc with all channels driven.

I would not be scared.

well, not only that, but speakers can typically take more power then they are rated for, that is usually a continuous rating, not a peak rating.

yeah but 105 wpc rms is continuous power but not with all channels driven, it's typically with 1 channel driven.

Finally wanted to give my new CF-70s a real test so put in Tron Legacy last night and had the volume up to about -10 or -11. Could have taken them louder but that woulda just made the house rattle even more. Serious rattling going on with the windows and walls. I even went outside to listen to what it sounded like out of the house during the light cycle scene. Could hear it pretty well outside the windows, including the window rattling, but for the most part the house kept the sound muffled which was good. Don't want to have angry neighbors. CF-70s are sounding real nice and producing a lot of clean punch. I worry now bout getting a sub as it'll be even that more powerful.

Really need to get that CC10 next. Could def be used during soft dialogue scenes. The CF-70s seem to take little break during those kinda scenes but then come roaring back to life when needed. I'm banking that someone will have a nice 4th of July sale here next week so I can grab that CC10 as well as something for rear surrounds.

CC10 no choice it's not ab out soft dialog keeping up with theCF it also to have the most seamless transition when something runs across the screen like a car passing by from left to right.

do you have anything for surrounds at the moment? I would suggest that you get a sub asap, there is too much LFE that you are missing.

I do have a couple JBLs that Theil24 gave me for surround purposes. Probably will hook those up as surrounds while I wait on the the CR10s or CB20s.

The CF70s are providing me with a decent amount of LFE for the moment. Windows are rattling. I know once I send those signals to a sub, it'll be even that much more impactful, but I feel like I'm missing a center at the moment. Their were moments in Tron last night where I found the dialogue to be a little soft and found myself turning up the volume during those moments. I never felt as if I was missing any of the LFE.

well sometimes dialog is just soft, no matter what speaker you have putting it out there.

Well true that the CF-70 can go low and playing that loud should provide tremendous amount of bass but the LFE signal is usually better reproduced by a sub, A good sub should still make a huge difference, if you think you have enough now then just wait and get a good sub in the 500$ range at least to keep up with the rest of your system.
when ever you are ready to get a sub we will be here to help you.

The JBL should do just fine as surrounds now.

True true. I guess I'll just have to see what, if anything, goes on sale next weekend for the 4th between an awesome sub or the CC10.

Good deal. I've been doing some research on subs for a while now and still haven't narrowed it done yet. I'd love an SVS, but they are pretty expensive, sans the SB12-NSD.

My buddy has an A3-300 from eD and while they put out a lot of punch and go low, I've read that #1, eD takes a long time to get a sub to you, months even and #2 the amps go out a lot on them. Plus they seem to give up a little refinement and accuracy in order to go low. I'd like as clean a punch I can get. While I would def consider an eD, I've kept my mind open to others.

HSU seems to put out quality stuff so I've considered them as well. Then of course there's Rythmik and Epik....so many IDs out there.

I haven't heard the SVS subs. The Hsu sub was a little more tight and accurate then the eD, but not enough for me to had justify the additional $209 that it was gonna cost me. When I originally asked EricT about the difference between the SVS and eD, he basically told me there wasn't much of a difference. Inregards to the time frame and plate amps. They have been much better at both recently. I think at one point they had so many orders for the A2-300 that it killed all of their production in terms of lead time. Currently the A2-300 is in-stock, and thats awesome cause that is one of their best selling subs they have. The plate amps are fine. They had an issue with the company that builds them for them, but there haven't been any complaints lately on here or AVS forum. The eD doesn't have the speed that my Dynaudio drivers do, however for HT it works just fine, Id have to buy a Dynaudio, JL or REL sub to really get something that matches well, but Im not gonna be able to afford one of those, so the eD is great, esp at the price points.

I have the same setup. Two CF-70s, a CC-10, and my surrounds are Definitive Technology SR8040BPs

Man, it seems like for $400 there's not a better value out there than that A2-300. Seriously I've looked and tried to find something and can't. I may have to pull the trigger on that as my sub when I'm ready to get a sub. The weekend of July 2nd I'm going to pull the trigger on either the A2-300 or the CC10. Decisions, decisions.

remember that the LFE channel is its own channel, so you would have to tell the recever that there is "NO Sub", so that the LFE is redirected to mains, if you tell your receiver that you have a sub(when you get one), then you'll redirect that LFE channel to the sub, that should help the speakers to do what they really do better, play the upper frequencies.

On the other hand, if you could get the Center and some Surrounds at the same time.... that would be great.
