Agreed!! Would have been nice to see what could have been.

Personally I prefer the Book Style packaging and hope WB continues to go this route. Have never once scratched or scuffed a disc taking them in and out of the case.

Here's a comparison image from CaptainHowdy.com:

The Blu-ray is a vast improvement over the The 25th Anniversary / Version You've Never Seen, however the original theatrical version is still far superior.

The Blu-ray definitely has the best colors of the three versions.

The blu-ray color timing i like except for the blu tinted exorcism. Its not as blue as the 25th anniversary or the version you've never seen though. The 1997 barebones DVD is still the best as far as the color during the exorcism.

By quoting the original post, you re-posted the same huge pictures.

If you had used the spoiler tags we would only see them once and then see your post instead of having to scroll all the way down.

Don't forget that we also check the forum from mobile devices and such with small screens

^What he meant was when you're quoting a post that has many pics,, put the original post in spoiler tags so that one does not have to scroll down a large bunch of pics just to read a small reply below that. It becomes a little annoying especially when multiple quote such a post, increasing the number of times one has to scroll down the same set of pics.

Edit: Eny above beat me to it, same thing.

Thanks for posting these; it's interesting to see how the image has evolved over the years. The original '97 DVD exorcism scene does appear to look the best. I'm curious if Friedkin ever discussed in an interview why he wanted the blue filter change. Maybe to make the room seem "colder"

Do you see how this gentleman used spoiler tags so we don't see the images again. It makes it much faster to scroll my friend.

I imagine it was to make the room icier. They went through a lot of trouble refrigerating the room to make the actors' breath show up. I prefer the blue tint.

The blue tint alters the lighting the cinematographer created, which alters the skin tones, which alters the make-up created by Dick Smith for the possession. Detail in the make-up is lost. Varying and subtle tinting of the painted bruises and shadows crating the sickness and pallor of the skin are lost.
All these things are discussed between those involved and the approval of the director and the cinematographer prior to shooting.
The blue tint throws all that out.
On a cold moonless winter night I know I don't see things tinted blue to know its cold.
Instead it is the vapor from mine or someone else's mouth, among other things that reveal this to me.
With all the postings about film preservation, original decade Studio Logos at the start of the film, original MONO mix included along with re-mixed 5.1 soundtracks, I find it strange how people can say the blue-tint could be accepted just because a director was swayed by a fad to update his film along with digital effects.
The CG and tint added to a new edit is one thing, but the original version should not contain the tint to remain true to the original vision.

I agree with all of what you said. We should have gotten the original theatrical cut instead of the 25th anniversary cut. Original color timing and all.
