So did I, but it wasn't thorough enough. I realized my Vizio was missing a couple crucial features. That's why I'm upgrading it at the end of the year.

If your guys’ TVs really show a big difference between your HDR10 and DV modes when the source is fine, then there’s something wrong with either, or both, modes. I also used to think DV was a big upgrade over HDR10 but it really isn’t, except in these cases when they do a half-a**ed job like this one.

Samsung TVs do not support Dolby Vision, due to additional manufacturing costs and additional license fees .

Is Dolby Vision or 4k HDR better?
The difference is that HDR10 is an open-standard and non-proprietary, whereas Dolby Vision requires license and fee from Dolby. ... However, Dolby Vision does offer a better picture quality, mainly due to its dynamic metadata. HDR or High Dynamic Range is the new buzzword when it comes to modern TVs and monitors .

Eh… if the TV has good/decent tone mapping for HDR10 you’ll essentially get the same results as DV. Hence why it shouldn’t really make a big difference at all and they should essentially look the same.

My Dolby Vision does look better than my HDR. There might be many reasons for that, but I prefer to buy Dolby Vision discs because they look better. I haven't gone through this entire thread, but what's the deal with Amazon? I ordered this title months ago and they won't even give me a delivery date.

Amazon being Amazon?

I pre-ordered a book a year in advance one time from Amazon (I must’ve been one of the first) yet when they released the book they never sent me a copy, just a notification that the book was now on back order. Can you pre-order too early from Amazon? They can be weird.

I tried to cancel it and get it somewhere else, but they wouldn't let me because I ordered it with another title.

Does anyone who's listened to the release know if the stereo track is the actual original stereo? Or are we dealing with another 5.1 downmix a la SotL?

Seriously. Some of the best-looking discs in my collection are HDR10 only. While technically DV is capable of producing better image quality, there are currently no TVs on the market that can fully take advantage of what DV provides over HDR10. It's nothing more than branding at this point, and clearly it's working on some people. You're not seeing a better image with DV over HDR10 (unless, like you said, the HDR10 layer is absolutely mangled) because while DV is capable of displaying 12-bit colour depth, there are no 12-bit consumer TVs so it all just gets downsampled to 10-bit anyway.

For those saying that they got a new TV with DV and can see the difference over HDR10, that has more to do with the fact that you got a new TV that likely produces better HDR than it does with DV being better than HDR10.

Then your TV isn’t handling HDR10 properly, or DV properly, or isn’t handling both well.

I will say my 2016 LG LCD UHD set doesn't display DV well at all for a variety of reasons. Besides the brightness pops from scene to scene, shot to shot, which comes and goes, the color and look in general is very different from HDR10. Color looks natural yet vibrant and the image overall is very balanced with HDR10 for me. DV looks way off. Colors are extremely over-saturated. I have to dial the color way down to compensate, yet it still doesn't look right. Skin tones are weird, almost brownish at times. Contrast is off. This is after many attempts to dial the image in. This is in dark mode, not vivid by the way. Vivid is awful as expected. Automatic "enhancements" are disabled as always (dynamic-contrast, etc.). The set just doesn't display it well at all, while HDR10 looks great. Which is why HDR10 is so important to get right on these discs. My set is also great at 3D which is why I won't part with it.

Not if the layer on the disc for HDR10 is messed up and the DV layer is what conceals the errors.

Oled c9 and the blacks fluctuate a bit on the darker scenes? Like when they are talking in the back yard for example and the camera pans over the trees? Is this a Oled problem or this source based?

The truth. I've mentioned this many time before but on my old 2016 OLED I thought Dolby Vision was a revelation since it mopped the floor with what I was seeing in HDR10. Lo and behold, two years later I got an E8 and suddenly the difference between DV and HDR10 was nearly indistinguishable, with the exception of these botched releases. So while I can appreciate that there are some displays out there where DV makes a huge difference, it's not quite all it's cracked up to be, especially on newer releases that already have a clean, digital aesthetic. I think it can have a big impact on catalog titles, though ironically the few people I know personally who care about 4K and always tout Dolby Vision couldn't care less about the majority of catalog releases or flat out feel hostile towards film grain.

Anyway, I'm always chilled whenever I see people going out of their way to mainly purchase Dolby Vision discs, or worse, watch a D+ or Vudu stream of a disc that is HDR10-only because it makes the DV logo pop up on their screen, especially if they have a nice display with dynamic tome mapping that is essentially going to negate the difference.

Yup. Exact same thing is happening with mine too. The blacks fluctuate constantly.

This disc sucks.

After their botched SOTL release and now this, my Criterion editions of Dressed to Kill and The Great Escape went from my sell pile back onto the shelf in my living room. Not making that mistake again.
