I don't even care about the Fantastic Four.

Marvel needs the rights back for one reason only:

DOCTOR DOOM

Finally, the MCU might have its first great villain (Loki isn't anywhere close to being as intimidating or menacing or powerful as the Doc).

Even if it flops, which I hope doesn't happen.... no chance of that happening.

They'll just wait and reboot again. You can almost bet on that.

The potential for profit is too valuable for them to dare ever let go of it if they can help it.

The lack of a proper MCU Doctor Doom is indeed a cinematic crime against humanity.

Just imagine that costume on the screen! And the monologues!

And would Doom fit in a Avengers sequel? he is also an Avengers enemy than a FF or Spider-Man or Iron Man enemy.

Doctor Doom fits anywhere. I would like to see him fight Batman, for example.

Thats boring. Doom will destroy the DC Universe easily.

Who wins? Batman with prep or Doom with prep

Seriously, Marvel needs Doom back. He is just an intimidating villian (though you wouldn't get that from the FF movies), and it would be excellent to see him done properly in a movie.

the deluxe 3D/2D box almost looked like Peter's walk-man. Except Peter's did not have the Blu-ray symbol, Marvel written on it, it was blue and had the Sony logo with walk-man on the front.

epic fail man. EPIC fail.

Maybe they could not do that since it was not a Sony release ?

They can't get it too close or they'd be treading on Sony's trademarks and design patents. Ergo, "generic stereo equipment thing."

Nothing to stop a custom cover maker from doing the same, however.

(Which reminds me I need to order the OST/OSC double album on vinyl soon.)

I started to respond to someone else but used my better judgment.

I agree though. It's probably just like the briefcase ordeal with the Phase I set.

That's what I figured. I was just be goofy in those posts.

But, what if they left off the 'SONY' part and kept everything else? I am sure Sony got paid a little for their product, even if it was an old one, in a movie?

BTW, GotG is still in the Top Ten.

GotG opens Friday in China (10/10), and in Italy and Switzerland in two weeks (10/22).

Can't believe they're opening that late in those big markets (mostly China / Italy hehe)...

China just got done with a big two-week holiday. Plus, Transformers 4 was hogging the biggest theaters and IMAX screens all summer.

That would still count as infringing on Sony's design patents, since you'd still be incorporating product elements from a company's specific design philosophy at the time.

UK_fan_05 is right comparing it to the Phase 1 briefcase; it would make it a very similar scenario.

And I wouldn't expect Sony to receive much (if any) product placement compensation for a thirty-year-old product, or at least nothing beyond what covers permission to use their logo on screen.
