There's a reason places like Netflix and YouTube have enabled downloading.

I assumed they enabled downloading so you can watch a movie show on a plane or somewhere else you don't have internet service, using a portable device.

More features are great, but for me personally, I rate downloads at a low priority. For home use, For me, and our use, I just don't see the point.

Downloading is for watching when there is no internet AFTER you download it WITH the internet. It doesn't matter if you download or stream, you're still going to use the same amount of data.

It would only help with your data cap if you gave the downloaded movie multiple viewings or stored that download on a local media server for multiple viewings, but you still have to download it first.

Streaming is just downloading it at a buffered pace and the advantage to that is you don't download the entire movie if you end up not watching all of it. Save's provider and user data.

this will be on Netflix by November. All disney releases are available there 2 months after BD. There may even be a 4K version. No reason to pay $30 for that movie

i may eventually get the physical trilogy i just think its stupid to buy a movie thats free with your subscription but to each their own. Plus- he said he was strongly considering the digital HD version which is likely the same thing that will appear on netflix lol

Some people (me) still prefer a tangible product that you actually own and can give away or sell. However I won't buy a BR without a digital copy included.

I don't count Netflix as my collection. Plus, I love special features, and Netflix offers zero special features. Lastly, there's no guarantee that Netflix will offer it in UHD.

P.S. I wasn't considering it in Digital HD. I'm considering it in Digital UHD because the digital copy included with the UHD BD supposedly only redeems in HD.

Unlikely, Netflix only really puts their originals in 4K to my knowledge. (other than Breaking Bad)

I will be it has to be cheap. I'm not spending $25+ on a lone Blu-Ray.

The inability to sell/transfer ownership is one of the major downsides for me. It's made blind buys very tough to even consider. Even when buying movies that I've seen and enjoy, it's annoying to be stuck with a digital copy that I'll never use again after buying the blu - other times I'll just not buy the blu at all because I already bought it digitally, even though I would have preferred to only have the blu in the first place.

This is where the Rubber Meets the Road, most don't want to pay over a certain amount for a Movie. That's why D2D is so popular, $5 for DVD and $2 for Blu-ray, most think any Movie is not worth more than that. Paying $25+ for any Movie is usually out of the question. So UV, Keychest, iTunes, or what ever comes down to cost. If the cost is within a Buyers limits, then the Movie will be available for most to view.

I DO prefer physical disks. I have been buying more VUDU movies lately, but ONLY those that are not available on bluray.

Yesterday, our internet and cable went down due to bad weather. The whole city was down. I WANTED to watch a certain movie, since the internet was down, but I could ONLY watch my PHYSICAL disks. NO ONLINE STREAMING available.

THAT reminded me again why physical disks are much better.

I went with the UHD version of GotG Vol 2 on VUDU yesterday, and don't regret it one bit. It was crazy impressive. Watched it last night and was blown away. I'm really glad VUDU offered it in that quality.

I believe it's the first UHD release on VUDU to be priced at $24.99 on release day. I guess that could have been Disney's idea. I hope we see UHD at that price or less on iTunes later this year. That would be awesome.

Can those that use both VUDU and iTunes comment how much better VUDU quality is compared to iTunes (compression, color depth, audio, better sources?). Is it very discernible?

I use iTunes, but everyone on this board seems to agree VUDU > iTunes.

In general I really like the HD image quality on iTunes. My wife and I would give it a slight edge over VUDU. I know that's a minority opinion. Most would give the edge to VUDU. But to me iTunes handles compression a little better.

But since iTunes doesn't have UHD yet, VUDU still has that edge. In the case of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, compression was almost nonexistent on VUDU. I was beyond impressed with that one. Even in dark scenes, there was almost no noise in the image. I couldn't believe it.

We'll see which provider has the best UHD once it launches on iTunes later this year. I expect iTunes to do a good job with that too.

Got out of work early and watching Galaxy of the Guardians 2 in HDX on VUDU right now. Impressed with the quality. My internet is around 26 Mbps.

I like having the option of both, myself. I tend to pick up things that have rewatch value and go the Amazon/Netflix or VUDU route on things I only occasionally watch.

ok so forget what i said about disney movies and netflix.

From reuters:

Disney declares war on Netflix and will remove all its movies from the service to start its own
Disney branded direct-to-consumer streaming service will launch in 2019
Company will also launch its own ESPN video streaming service in early 2018

While I see your point, the 4K UHD combo pack will include the 4K disc, regular Blu-Ray disc, and the digital copy, for probably only slightly more than you paid for just the digital copy. That way you have the movie in 3 forms, and if one fails, at least you have the others.
