Besides 1080p, is there much difference between this version and the older 1080i version of The Others? Is the picture quality similar? I had no idea this newer version even existed!

Yes, all the bonus features are new to this release. Looks like this newer release is a copy of the US release.

The earlier 1080i release had no special features, but the same aspect ratio.

Unfortunately it is hard to find information on Canadian releases, for instance I would like to know the BDinfo before pulling the trigger.

Yes, you're right - it's just a port of the US release. Definitely a huge improvement over the original Alliance release (I used to own both).

I'm sorry if this isn't news anymore but as I was about to place an order at Amazon.ca I noticed a hike in the international shipping rates. What is going on?

They doubled the price for shipment and the price per item is almost 3x times higher. From $4.99 and $1.99 to $10.99 and $4.99!

I'm thinking Nightbreed, Lord of Illusions, Dolls, Lake Placid, Carrie 1 & 2, and They Live. Maybe Monkey Shines for fun.

The LE is really only for collector's and die hard fans imo.

Yeah the only things worth buying are the Collector's Editions. The other stuff can be gotten for cheaper at HMV.

I got the LE for $61 CAD shipped a few weeks ago. It also could have been gotten for $78 CAD from Scream Factory recent sale (though I think it is now sold out).

My only complaint with the LE is the outer box is not very rigid. It can get damaged very easily in the mail.
