They're great-looking 3D as always from DreamWorks. It's nothing spectacular like Madagascar 3, but I'd definitely vote for paying extra or shopping around to get both in 3D. The movies are very enjoyable and a great addition to a 3D collection.

Before Black Friday Amazon.ca had them for $15.99CA each. They're back up now but it's evidence that they can be had for a reasonable price if you're willing to keep an eye out. |

Last night I finally watched Inside Out ![]() As some of the reviews on this forum indicated that Pixar had finally started to push their 3D out a bit, I was expecting the 3D to be above average. Silly me. All I saw was typical Pixar 3D - limited depth and pretty much no pop-out, with not a single memorable 3D moment. There's a scene where the characters briefly become 2D and you barely notice the difference. Yes, it's rendered in real 3D and there's a pleasing dimensionality to the characters but that's the bare minimum I'd expect. And that's what Pixar have delivered here, the bare minimum, as if their mission is to make 3D as utterly inconsequential as possible. Last edited by the13thman; 12-08-2015 at 08:10 AM. |

I've been busy with soccer and vacation recently, so I haven't had much time to watch movies. But these were my purchases from the last time I posted in this thread (July 2015). FWIW all have their slipcovers
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Need to watch the usual Christmas movies this month so hopefully afterwards I can catch up! Still waiting for Minions 3D to get to a reasonable price ($27.99 ![]() |

Watched Insurgent Blu Ray. Some okay depth periodically but nothing great. No pop outs, not really worth the effort.
Another pointless 3D conversion. |

watched Sin City a Dame to Kill For 3D, really impressive, you feel like you are there, not so much pop out effects but depth is strong here

I watched Sam O'Cool (which the end credits reveal was originally titled Yellowbird and has thankfully been released in Germany with English audio and no forced subs).
![]() it took me a little while to get into the movie, which improved for me a lot after the annoying ladybug/ladybird got sidelined, the standard basic life lessons plot is nothing new but it's done well enough with a decent voice cast (Seth Green, Dakota Fanning, Richard Kind, Danny Glover etc). The 3D is nothing special, there were a couple of moments when the birds were obviously out of the screen, but it was all depth for the most part with only one blink-and-you'll-miss-it cartoon flash making me blink. Credit where credit's due, there were some nice deep moments (particularly in a ship near the end) and some noticeable layering here and there, and the characters looked 3D, but as a big fan of pop-outs I can't really say I was satisfied. Still, even a little bit more pop-out than you'd get from Pixar is better than Pixar... Last edited by the13thman; 12-11-2015 at 09:27 PM. |

Watched: AntMan
3D was great. Dimension, detail, foreground placement were really nice and strong. Good detail as well. Nice wide out shots as well. Movie? Meh. First half was really slow and the action didn't pick up til later in the movie. The AntMan character just didn't do anything for me either. For a Marvel movie...this felt more comedy than action for my Marvel/DC tastes. May give it a second viewing...but only in 3D. Can't see myself seeing the 2D version...ever. The great 3D made it more tolerable to watch |

Watched: I wish all 3D movies had great 3D like this one, lots of depth, popouts, nice sharp image and it seemed there was something in the foreground in nearly every scene, on some occasions this actually made it hard to read the subtitles as it looked like they were behind the image and I found it hard to focus on the words.
![]() Today I found this at Dollar General for $15, never cared for the movie when I first got the regular 3d combo and ended up selling it, but for this price I think I will give it another go. The light in the head has nice effect like its kind of pulsing. This was high on the shelf behind the counter and not on the shop floor if anyone is thinking of trying their local store. ![]() |

Watched Immortals 3D the other day...
Wow..just wow...this disc surprised the heck out of me. Detail and Depth were just ridiculous. Everyone should own this movie in 3D. Being presented in 1.85 probably also helped with the overall immersion factor. |
