It's been making the rounds for sometime now... more than that there's an even longer version available as well.

In 2009, Mark Miller, co-head of Barker's production company, Seraphim Films, helped track down the missing footage that was cut out of the director's cut of Nightbreed.[55] Miller discovered, after talking to a production executive at the studio, that the footage was never actually lost but readily accessible. When asked, a studio executive said that there was not a big enough audience to warrant the studio spending money on a new, extended cut of the film.[56] A VHS copy of Barker's 145-minute version of the film's mid-1989 workprint was discovered. It did not feature any of the re-shoots of Decker's murders.[57] An extended 159-minute cut version, from another VHS found in July 2009, was premiered on March 27, 2010 as part of the HorrorHound Weekend in Indianapolis.[58] This new version adds almost a whole hour that was cut from the theatrical release, including a musical score and more animation. In an interview, Barker said that he hopes to bring back Danny Elfman "and give us just a little bit of extra music for it.

Same here. I snagged a pre-order on blowitoutahere back months before it came out for around $45-$50ish and am very proud to own it in my collection.

I think the extra features are worth the extra $20 when compared to the standard edition, but definitely not worth the extra $40 though.

Cool that the Cabal cut is out there in one form or the other for us to get at. I think the quality will be pretty bad since VHS copies are all that exist for it.

Yes, the VHS footage is quite jarring. It goes from dvd quality to very rough quality but it's still nice to have. Shout should have included it on their release. I'll post some screenshots when I get a chance. For now I have this:

Oomph. That is pretty rough looking. But like you said its nice to have nonetheless. I'm not very familiar with the theatrical cut having only seen it once 16 or so years ago, so all the changes wouldn't be that obvious to me. I did like the directors cut from this set when I watched it though.

I wanted the limited edition but I guess I have to settle for the standard. Not paying $70 for a movie.

I would watch it even though it's on VHS. Don't get why they didn't include it in the bluray release? They probably want to make more money from another bluray version.

That's what I think. I know these companies are always thinking of their future sales. With what they charged for this 3 disc edition though, it really should have been included. I get the feeling that many aren't happy with this release but I could be wrong.

I have the Limited Edition, I got it when it was around 50. Honestly the only thing the Limited Edition has going for it beyond the box is the theatrical cut and some special features. After the director's cut you won't want to watch the theatrical anyway and all the good special features are on the Directos''s cut disc anyway. Believe me you really aren't missing much.

One thing I was wondering is, was the 145 min version which screened at Horrorhound Weekend labeled as THE CABAL CUT or workprint version because there was also a 155 min version which was screened at Mad Monster Party. I'm just wondering if there's a CABAL CUT and an EXTENDED CABAL CUT.

Now, there was a screening last year at HorrorHound Weekend – a 145-minute cut on VHS, without all the studio-demanded reshoots, assembled from different sources. And now you have this three-hour “definitive cut” being screened at Mad Monster Party this weekend. Without too many spoilers, what can fans of the film expect to see?

First, I should set the record straight. There was a three hour version but that was what we got when we put the two rough cuts together. And during the editing process we realized that what we were seeing were some of the reshoots. For example, in one of the first versions of the composite, Captain Eigerman died twice. We watched it all the way through and realized that probably shouldn’t happen, so we went back and fixed that. Eventually we ended up with the version we have now, which is two hours 35 minutes long. Still a considerably longer film, but it doesn’t feel that way at all. Without giving anything away, I can tell you that you can expect to see a lot more of everything – more monsters, more action, more story. And believe it or not, there’s even a musical number.

Default Amazon availability

As of today, Amazon shows only two left in stock at a price of $79.97. From other related sources prices range from $67.95 to $199.99 new and one "used - like new" priced at $300.00. Not sure if there are stragglers still kicking around at other retailers or if in fact the title is nearing sold out. Likely most everyone who wanted one and was motivated enough to pay the price initially got one. Future collectability and demand is an open question.

There seems to be a relatively healthy supply at Bullmoose for the time being at $69.97:

It does appear to have disappeared from many sites though.

It was a smart move to up the quantity to 10.000 as it gave people ample time to pick it up and those who were on the fence about it had plenty of opportunities to pick it up at discounted prices.

As I predicted with my glass ball in this very thread, the theatrical cut (exclusive to the LE set) is getting a first standalone release in Europe, in Italy to be more exact. Check this. I'm sure more countries will follow. So those who only got the regular edition or only like to own the theatrical cut they can still pick it up cheap.

A few undetermined factors with that release for you to even make that statement though at least for US buyers.

1. Is it even going to be region free? The listing seems to indicate Region B for now.

2. Will it be the same disc? If not will it have worse, similar, or better video and audio quality?

You are correct, but I would be surprised it if would be a different transfer than the one in the LE, though of course that is no guarantee. As for the blu-ray region, that awaits to be tested. But the mere fact that within half a year (!) after the Scream Factory release the theatrical is now getting its own separate release, is good news.

Don't listen to the guy above me. It's $79 on Amazon, but since it's limited it won't be available forever. So yeah that price is about in line with everywhere else that still has it in stock. Unless you want an open used copy on eBay that's around $65.
