Yikes that does look awful, I doesn't look like that release has a page here so I was under the incorrect impression that the Discotek release was the only one.

Indeed, Respect is in turn a homage to the opening theme of "Gerry Anderson's UFO," though from what I gathered it doesn't appear that Respect was ever featured on any of the US releases, though I did read that it did slip by on one of the episode openings when it was first airing on Adults Swim. However, I read that Respect was still featured in the second season as background music during a couple scenes. Apparently these instances were still present in the Japanese BD which leads me to believe that this is probably the case on Sentai's release as well, but I was just curious to know beforehand since it's kind of odd if they kept it in despite having removed the first theme during one of the fights scenes. Maybe they just figured that no one would notice since Gerry Anderson's UFO isn't as well known as Queen and Flash Gordon.

Does anyone by chance own the Discotek release of "Great Teacher Onizuka?" I was curious what the disc packaging looked like on it since it appears surprisingly compact, but I can't find any used copies of it online in order to see for myself. It would certainly free up a lot of space if I were to replace my TokyoPop box sets with it, though unfortunately I heard that it uses the same masters as the TokyoPop release which means the opening themes are going to be significantly louder than the actual show for whatever reason. However, one thing that I'm a little wary about is that this release is apparently on only seven discs as opposed to the TokyoPop release which was on ten, this makes me wonder if it has worse video compression as a result.

Additionally, I was similarly curious about Discotek's release of "Soul Hunter" which I'm having even more trouble finding any information on.
Though I'm more on the fence about replacing my individual ADV DVDs with that one solely on the basis that the cover kind of looks like a lazy photoshop of screenshots from the show.

The Discotek release for Great Teacher Onizuka is also missing all the video extras and easter eggs from the Tokyopop DVDs. Soul Hunter, don't know much about Discotek's release for that, but that is also missing basically every extra from the ADV DVDs. Unfortunately a lot of Discotek's license-rescues for years suffered from this problem, it wasn't until a few years ago Discotek really got good about making sure every show retained the extras from prior releases instead of a select few. The thread in my signature has multiple examples.

Discotek's DVDs of GTO reuses the asset files from the Tokyopop discs; meaning the video, audio, and subtitles are exactly the same. The video looks wretched since the masters are total garbage to begin with. Essentially all they did was strip out the extras, made new menus, and put it all on seven discs. Compact packaging is the only benefit and even then it's ugly since they only had one piece of artwork to work with.

GTO was an early release from Discotek before they started putting the level of effort and quality into their releases that they're known for now.

I watched Lupin the 3rd: Island of Assassins on Bluray recently and was kind of surprised by the mixed quality of Discotek's release. Their Lupin blurays (much like almost all their blus) tend to be excellent but this one had some weird issues, such as noticeable static on the left edge of the screen and an orange line down the middle of the screen, both very noticeable during darker scenes but less problematic during normal, not-dark scenes.

Wonder if this is a case of them getting a bad master from TMS?

Plus, as Grav will tell you, it’s one of the few Region 1 locked Discotek DVDs. I think an SD-BD for GTO would be great, as it could fix some technical issues.

Some? As long as it doesn't look like a bootleg VHS rip it's good with me.

I say some because maybe that's the best master currently available. Anything can go wrong with old anime.

That's too bad, I hope that they do a SDBD of it someday then, preferably one with better video quality to that of the old DVDs. As for Soul Hunter I'm disappointed to hear that all the extras were removed since I recall the character and history synopses explained or at least gave context to a lot of things which weren't elaborated on too well in the show itself.

GTO hasn't had a re-release in Japan since the original DVD volumes released in like 2000. Every foreign release has been sourced from those same terrible masters too.

It's in dire need of a remaster, unless the film is lost or something.

Redline - Dynit BD

This may not offer a significant upgrade over the Japanese BD, but it definitely gives a good trashing to the previous BD that Kazé released in Italy and other places. There is some banding and aliasing in the source, but it is a fairly minor problem. It helps that there is a grain texture and that the action moves at such a breakneck pace, that I wasn't paying much attention to the deficiencies.

As you can see here, the credits hit the horizontal edge of the screen

And here I thought there couldn't be an anime Blu-ray this year that's worse than the Dutch Blu-ray of Weathering with You.
