I admittedly root for Marvel's box office failure because I'm sick of the Mary Sue-ing and LGBQ-ing of the brand. I thought Fantastic Four was okay, though, with reservations. I think the reasons for the comparative failure of the studio to its heyday are as clear as day. Money is the only vote I have, and so I cancelled Disney plus well over a year ago, stopped importing their Blu-rays. This is the only film I didn't wait to see streaming.

I never take you or your clique of Marvel cheerleaders seriously. In case you missed it, aside from this one movie, which was my childhood comic of choice, I have removed myself from paying for MCU material.

Has anyone bought the limited edition Displate called Devourer of Worlds? It's a metal poster of Galactus and Silver Surfer. They are admittedly not cheap, but some are really good. If I was more of a fan of the Fantastic Four, I probably would have picked this up.

Sometimes a newspaper article would point to a movie being a flop. We really didn’t see numbers unless it was a mega blockbuster. We never saw the budget to determine ROI or the general 2.5 x budget calculation. It was a general feeling among family, friends and co-workers how popular a movie was. Sound of Music, The Godfather, The Exorcist, Jaws, Star Wars. There was incredible excitement around these films. The billion dollar Lilo and Stitch and nearly a billion for Minecraft, we no longer see that collective excitement. VHS, DVD, Blu-ray, 4K and streaming have all reduced the “specialness” of movies. This forum is a very small bubble of fanatics, film lovers, film historians and collectors, many with OCD that still care. The world out there no longer sees the “specialness” of film or of many other things like sports, concerts, music. The release of Sgt Pepper was an event, even Taylor Swift releasing a new album is not much of an event any more. |

150–200 million Then makes $942.9 million Does not make a profit. According to the general 2.5 X the budget it should have made money. I believe James Gunn said the data that people believe is false. So if the concern is that studios will stop making movies that do not make a profit, how do you get around Harry Potter. If what people belove is true about movie budgets and revenue what is the point? People are trying to take something that is clearly complicated and trying to simplify it, with clearly missing pieces of data. There are clear enforcing data to figure out batting average and earned run averages. If the studios wanted us to know this data they would freely release it. Without the raw data, everything falls apart. |

Makes me think of someone walking past a restaurant where they do not like the food. Yet choose to go in there to tell other customers you do not like it. Time is money.

There is Hollywood accounting, gross profit, net profit, points etc. What you posted is “movie accounting” not real money accounting. The studios still pay the correct amount of taxes to the IRS. James Gunn is not a disinterested party regarding his comments on profit. A lot came out in that Buchwald lawsuit and Paramount settled, didn’t appeal and didn’t want any more sh!t to come out. That’s why businesses settle. |

The studios are going to play their games. We do not have to play along with them. |

So many factors. Tax credits. Merchandising. Physical media sales. Digital sales. All other kinds of stuff I’m sure I’m not aware of.
Oh I can’t take any opinions that use the term Mary Sue seriously. I wish to God that the writer of the Mary Sue story had thrown it in the garbage or into a fire. |
