Yes, no problems with the subtitles on "8 1/2." I answered the same question about 6 or 7 posts above yours, in fact. Who knows what Amazon's deal is right now with getting the disc in?

I've noticed that they've done this lately with a few films. I think they did it with Wings of Desire a few days ago I believe, and Pineapple Express was unavailable on Blu-ray for a few days also. In the case of Pineapple Express, I noticed people were complaining that it wasn't working on their PS3s. I'm wondering if people are complaining that the Blu-ray discs don't play correctly on their players and if enough people complain, Amazon stops selling them until they find out what's going on to make sure they're not selling defective discs. I could be wrong though.

Thumbs up

I placed my order for all of the replacement cases on December 17th and I received an email today stating that they had been shipped via USPS First Class Priority Mail. It said I should received them within 2 weeks.

Hmm, what? First Class and Priority Mail are 2 different services, and neither of them should take 2 weeks.

Also I ordered mine almost 2 weeks before you and still haven't gotten anything, let alone a notification

Yeah, I would always check Criterion's site for a certain film before thinking that it's OOP according to an online retailer.

I thought that they were two different things as well. Maybe she meant one or the other. Here's the email:

From: "Karen Mesoznik" <orders@criterion.com>
To: "****_*******@*****.com"
Cc: orders@criterion.com

Hi Kris,

Thank you for your case purchase! Your Blu-ray replacement cases have been sent out via USPS First Class/ Priority mail so you should expect to receive them within two weeks. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns, and thanks for supporting Criterion!

Best,

Karen
The Criterion Collection

I think they state First Class/ Priority since the e-mail is more or less automated etc, if you ordered a couple cases that would prob go first class, but if you ordered say all nine they'd have to pay priority to ship those, plus they throw in that 2 weeks delivery time to be on the safe side, usually takes a few days only.

They shipped my replacement cases Media Mail.

OUCH MEDIA MAIL! That can take like a month! Media mail should be outlawed. I wouldn't wish media mail on my worst enemy.

I really hope they did not send mine Media Mail

I replied to them a moment ago to see if they could confirm the method of shipment. I will let you all know as soon as they respond (if they even respond)...

I ordered three replacement cases (The Third Man, Chungking Express, Last Year At Marienbad) on December 16th, got an email on Thursday confirming that they were on their way, and today I finally got them! They were shipped using First Class. If you look at the spine for Chungking Express, you'll notice a small rip by the top left hand corner....I'm trying not to be OCD about it....

^^^ if that rip bothers you...... you might want to seek help (or just self-medicate...... it's cheaper if you don't have the insurance )

Looks pretty sweet. Why do you keep your Criterions in between Dark City and Shaun of the Dead though?

I know, I know...unfortunately, I've always been that way with my CDs/DVDs/Blu-rays. A little too OCD....

LOL, no particular reason. I originally hadn't planned on buying Criterion Blu-rays except for The Third Man, and I just happened to put it next to Dark City. I kept buying more and more Criterions (the ones I know I'll watch multiple times after renting them) and I just kept adding them next to each other...Shaun of The Dead is there as a filler for now, until I get my copy of Paris, Texas . One day I'll arrange my Blu-rays properly.

Also, all of his non-replacement case Criterion discs still have their tamper seals intact. Buying them and not watching them, perhaps?

Well, I had explained earlier that I'm renting all of the Criterion Blu-rays first and if I truly like them, I then buy them. I have other titles that I've been watching right now and when I'm done with them, I'll start watching the Criterion's I've bought.
