There has NEVER been a Fantastic Four movie that was as good as even the worst X-Men or MCU movie.

Like I said, at what point do you start connecting the dots? How good a director and how good a cast do they have to throw at the next one before it's written off?
it's called a fairly incompetent studio... they lucked out with HALF the X-men movies (X-men, X2 and DOFP are good, X3, First class were crap... Same with Origins. )

Most people would not group First Class in with X3 and Origins but I think the point you're making is that Fox lucked out by hiring Bryan Singer.

(You forgot about The Wolverine.)

I strongly suspect that Fox struck gold with the X-Men movies purely because of Bryan Singer.

If he was never involved, I suspect the X-Men movie franchise would more resemble the Fantastic 4 movies.

a lot of people liked it, but I found FC to be a truly terrible film.. only good actor in the entire new X-men lineup is Fassbender, the rest are a joke, with Katniss Mystique leading the charge (so sick of her at this point)...horrible villain, bland storytelling, with mutants no one cared about. the only good parts of DOFP were the future parts with the older cast, I got bored every time it shifted back to the 70's because of the cast.....

true, forgot about Wolverine.. that was pretty good

I suspect that one of the reasons it's so hard to make a Fantastic Four movie is that the comics are absolutely bonkers, and their origin story and powers are utter nonsense, even by comic book standards.

It works well in comic books, and it certainly worked well decades ago when they were conceived, but today it just requires a little too much "throw everything out of your brain" to accept.

Maybe if you got them into the MCU you could throw in some witty comments from the rest of the heros about how completely nutso their entire existence is.

Gah, it's killing me not seeing this movie. I need to see it for myself ASAP so I can really have an informed opinion. I want to see if my suspicions about what works and what doesn't are correct.

edit: an no, as bad as Origins and Last Stand may be, they're still better than any of the Fantastic Four movies, opinion on current movie still TBD.

Definitely a candidate for Movie of the Year! It's going to sweep the board at the Razzies. At this point it would have to be a contender in every category they have. Fingers crossed!

Yikes.

In any event, I hope Disney/Marvel never get the rights back to X-Men.

So, you can accept a guy who climbs walls, a scientist who turns huge and green, a man with metal claws housed in his arms, a talking raccoon, telepaths, aliens, and restoration from a 70-year winter nap...but not stretching, flying like a meteor, a rock body, or turning invisible? Sounds kinda arbitrary to me, just sayin'...

Would make for an interesting documentary! "The Death of Fantastic Four 2, what Happened?" Oh wait, silly me! We don't need a documentary, just go see Fantastic Four in theaters now!

if each of them got their powers from a unique mechanism, that was related to that power in some way, absolutely I could buy them.

but vague "cosmic _____" hits them all and they each develop unique powers that are in no way related, incredibly specific, and have nothing at all to do with the mechanism that created them?

the only origin that's similar is Hulk, but that holds up better as well, since other people exposed to the same mechanism end up with the same ability and turning into a green rage monster is basically just an enhancement regular ability to it's furthest extreme anyways.

IF Marvel Studios ever gets the rights back they should go the way they're going with Spiderman and completely skip the origin story. The first time we meet them they should already have their powers, and only vague or fleeting reference be made to how they acquired them.

Where is your positive outlook? 13% still leaves room for it to drop even further, it's not like it's at 0%... Yet...

In a strange turn of events the positive reviews were all re-evaluated and determined to be negative after all. The final RT score is 0% How's that for positive outlook?

Well that was fast. What am I going to do with the rest of my day? I am certainly not going to see this again.

Not before they open up the poll, I want my vote! I am sure lots of others want to have their say as well. This thread will be pure gold over the coming days.
