How do you find out about these things?

I get a crapload of amazon emails every day, yet I never get notice of any lightning deals, specials, offers, etc. I've even signed up for promotion notices a couple times, I get a few, then nothing.

Or in this case, is the promotion coming from the Visa side, and I'm barking up the wrong tree? I don't see it on the amazon site...(edit: except through the provided link of course, I can't seem to find it any other way...weird)

Nah, I found out on RFD

I don't get promotion notices either and I don't actively look for Visa side promotions or anything.

^ Maybe if I signed up for Visa promotions I'd know. I actually have a Visa debit, that's what my TD access card turned into a couple years ago. Am I wrong that you used to be able to use Visa "points" at amazon.ca?

Using debit online is much more an American thing than a Canadian thing, and I guess they want to turn us that way, since debit is a per-transaction charge (to amazon), and CC is percentage-based (to amazon). I guess Visa benefits somehow either way, I don't know the deal there.

Just wish amazon had anything I wanted "on sale" now, I pretty much cleaned up around the time of the last Criterion and KL sale. Hey amazon: Now put some different Criterions and KLs on sale! Like some of the newer ones.

You didn't hear it from me, but just a regular Visa works as well

^ Agreed, thanks to obscura for the additional tip.

You all know amazon.ca has their own Visa eh? I am a careful user of CCs, and certainly don't want to promote their "over-use" (etc. etc., all the responsible disclaimers, etc.), but the amazon Visa is a very good one to have if you buy overseas, and maybe even if you don't. It has very favorable exchange fees (as in none), not to be confused with exchange rates, which of course always exist.

I think the being able to use Visa "points" at amazon stopped when amazon came out with their own Visa. Not completely sure of that, but both are true whatever order they happened... Anyway, the amazon Visa gives you "auto-points", which are automatically redeemed as a credit on your bill when they get to a certain amount (IIRC $20). It actually works out to at least equal regular Visa points, and the further advantage is you can effectively "spend" these points anywhere that takes Visa.

Bottom line is the amazon Visa is a good one if you pay your balance, you can save especially decently with it if you buy at other amazons or anywhere outside Canada. I have never seen a single "amazon Visa only" deal though, probably not legally allowed here. And maybe having just a "Visa debit only" deal is not allowed here either, I'll speculate.

After I entered the promo code, on the last screen before I finalized the order with my Visa card, there was a note confirming that my order qualified for the promotion. You don't receive the credit on your account until your order actually ships, but right after my order was shipped, I received an e-mail from Amazon noting: "Your recent order entitles you to a promotional credit which we have added to your account. This credit can be applied to your next qualifying purchase". The credit expires August 2017.

Default Zatoichi Criterion Blu-ray/DVD Set $71.85 ("Used - Good")

A few weeks ago a marketplace seller had Criterion's Zatoichi set for $68.36 plus $3.49 shipping with the description "Original packaging appears worn. Cover torn and/or worn". I took a chance and ordered it and the set came factory-sealed with very minor damage to the box (a small 1 cm tear and some minor crush damage both on the top of the box). The discs, internal packaging, and booklet were all in excellent condition, so I was extremely pleased with the purchase.

They apparently have at least one more for sale again with the same description/price. There could be some variations in the amount of packaging damage in any copies that they're selling, of course, but it's an outstanding price if you don't need a mint set:

http://www.amazon.ca/Zatoichi-Swordsman-Criterion-Collection-Blu-ray/dp/B00EO2I6OM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1439608546&sr=8-1&keywords=zatoichi+blu-ray

Update: no longer available at that price, but they also have new copies of this set (at about $100 more) so it looks like they sell any copies they identify with external damage as "Used - Good" at a heavily discounted price, so keep watching the listing if you're really interested in this one and you might get lucky.

I've been checking everyday this week to see if the pre-order is up there but so far, nothing

They should as Shout Factory's site says it will be available in US/Canada. They are probably just late putting up the pre-order.
