I am new to this 3D thing. Never was a fan and thought it was a cheap fad. Loved it as a kid (when I could find a 3D movie to watch) but it was never very good 3D. Recently had to replace my old projector and got a 3D one just for the heck of it. I have a 118" screen so the 3D movies I have watched so far have looked really good.
I recently acquired a LARGE collection of 3D movies in one big lot and am starting to go through them. I will post my thoughts here on each movie as I watch them. I have watched several movies so far but didn't think to post anything about them but I have been very impressed with 3DBD so far and am disappointed I did not get into it earlier. Why haven't I heard more about it? It just seems like a rather quiet extra that not many are talking about like they should. Forgive my reviews. They will likely be simplistic and may be overly generous in my thoughts on the 3D since I am new to the medium. Anyway, I watched Polar Express last night. Probably the best 3D movie I have watched on my screen so far. It truly was amazing looking. I have never seen the movie before either and was pleased to really enjoy it. I was surprised when I looked it up and saw a lot of poor reviews. Movie - ****1/2 out of ***** 3D - ***** out of ***** |

Polar Express is very good in 3D, I loved the way the snow looked and kind of pops out. I'd give it a better rating than what it's been getting for sure. If you have it or can get it without breaking the bank, especially this time of the year, give Disney's Beauty and the Beast 3D a watch. It is awesome! |

Some other titles I have watched recently (all rating are out of 5 stars):
Arthur Christmas: Extremely enjoyable movie. Great, fresh take on xmas with a ton of hilarious humor. I had never even heard of this movie before watching it. Movie - ****1/2 3D - ****1/2 Live Die Repeat (Edge Of Tomorrow): Great movie. Lots of fun, lots of action, and lots of good effects. Movie - ****1/2 3D - **** Sanctum: Not the greatest movie but I found it enjoyable for what it was. If going deep underwater or into caverns creeps you out (which for me it does), then you will likely enjoy it. The acting can be poor though. It did make me wish Descent was in 3D. Movie - ***1/2 3D - ***1/2 Nurse: I went in blind and did not know what to expect. I enjoyed it. A decent amount of gore and a girl who likes to walk around bottomless for a good portion of the time. I was surprised by the very poor reviews after watching this one. The 3D is decent looking but pretty mild for the most part. It did add to my enjoyment of the movie though. Movie - **** 3D - ***1/2 Ice Age: A Mammoth Christmas: Running a scant 25 minutes, this is an fun little short, especially if you like the cast and characters from the other Ice Age movies. The 3D looks very good in this one. Movie - **** 3D - **** The Mask: Okay, the plot is slight and the acting a little out there. But I appreciated it for what it was and think it may get better on repeat viewings around Halloween. The 3D looks really good but you only get 3 short sequences of it. Movie - *** 3D - **** Noah: Well, here is a movie that probably isolates believers and non-believers alike. Aronofsky's weakest film by far, this ponderous, slow moving movie just wasn't for me (and I am not a believer). The Transformers, I mean, rock characters looked cool but that was about it. I just kept hoping the movie would end despite the nice looking 3D. Movie - *1/2 3D - **** Green Lantern: I don't care what anyone says, this movie is a lot of fun. I love Ryan Reynolds and thought he did a good job with this one. Yeah, the movie's plot isn't the best but the visuals are nice and the 3D was good. Movie - ****1/2 3D - ***1/2 The Little Rascals In 3D: Extremely nice looking transfer on the shorts included here. You can't go wrong with this. Movie - ***** 3D - **** A Haunting In Salem: Not very scary, gory, or...anything. Just kinda there. It doesn't have a bad story but it just doesn't seem to go anywhere interesting with it. Poor acting and while it was filmed with 3D cameras, there wasn't much to the 3D in my opinion. Movie - ** 3D - **1/2 |

As you said, the 3D presentation is top-notch with quite a lot of depth and separation. And of course, there's that gimmicky paddleball scene which goes on for a bit too long, but is technically impressive nevertheless. However, my favorite moment came towards the end when [Show spoiler] . The dance sequence is quite a missed opportunity though...

MR. PEABODY AND SHERMAN
MOVIE: 3/5 3D: 5/5 AQ: 5/5 Well maybe i was expecting more laughs for kids and adults, but it didn't. It does contain 2-3 great laughs for the adults every now and then that would fly over the kids heads. Plus it keeps up with the old cartoon puns too which was nice too see continued for this newer age of kids (who probably won't get it, but for the parents who watched the show should appreciate) That being said it is one solid 3D disc with a great sense of depth and some wonderful "pup-out" of the screen moments (i can do puns too) Mr. Peabody's snout always seems to be slightly pultruding the screen, and loved the depth of field that was presented throughout. (Just skip to the Da Vinci's glider scene is a worthy demo scene for non 3D believers) Plus the soundtrack was great from clear front vocals to the constant use of the surrounds for music/action scenes. So OK movie but a demo worthy disc to show off your system with. |

Sin City: A Dame To Kill For - I am not a big fan of the first Sin City and this one is even worse. Just dull as hell. Eva Green naked for the majority of the time is the only reason to see this. Actually just watch the movie in fast forward and watch the scenes with Eva Green. You won't miss much doing that.
Now with that being said, the 3D is just fantastic. It is a beautiful movie to look at and the 3D is outstanding in my opinion. I wish I liked the movie because the 3D is pure eye candy. Movie: **1/2 out of ***** (it gets the extra half star just for Eva Green) 3D: ****1/2 out of ***** |

I just finished watching The Four trilogy, thankfully released region free in Hong Kong.
![]() The first movie isn't in 3D but I watched it in order to understand parts II and III, it was OK but nothing special compared to the 90's Hong Kong movies I love so much. ![]() What a difference 3D makes to the second film. All the scenic stuff and CG enhanced martial arts action has proper depth - there's not so much pop out, but it's an attractive presentation all the same. ![]() I certainly noticed more pop out in the third film, which looked even better than the second. Gordon Chan is no Tsui Hark but he stages a few nice 3D sequences which elevate the material considerably. In 2D these are fairly average films but the last two do look good in 3D. |

Had a friend over for dinner & a movie yesterday.
Watched two of 3D Master Zemeckis' films: A Christmas Carol & The Polar Express Both are superb examples of thoughtful, integrated 3D entertainment. Jim Carrey should've won several awards for the magnificent performances in A Christmas Carol. The Polar Express is a pure joy to watch from start to finish. The Train sequences in 3D with the surround sound cranked are nothing short of a ride at Universal Studios. We didn't just watch it, we "experienced" the journey together and high-fived many times along the way. ![]() Tonight, the wife and I will be watching the amazing Hugo for Christmas Eve. ![]() |

SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS: SPONGE OUT OF WATER (3D)
MOVIE: 2/5 3D: 4.5/5 AQ: 4/5 My god these writers must be ****ing high as a kite when they come up with these movies. Singing/talking seagulls, basically a Dr. Who like dolphin, and a Mad Max society where everyone somehow will magically appear with leather chaps. It had a few laughs but not many like the first movie (yeah i liked the first) Plus it didn't have any memorable songs in the film (hell it only had one original and the theme) The sound wasn't bad and the 3D was surprisingly strong for the 2D animated portions and even stronger with the real world CGI ones as well. So young kids and stoners should love the film, but i am neither and so i say skip it. Also i bought PAN 3D |
