So it turns out that no matter what happens in Friday night's inaugural Pac-12 Championship Game, it will not be the final time UCLA plays this season. The NCAA announced on Wednesday that it had approved UCLA's bowl waiver petition.

“As a program, we appreciate the NCAA approving our petition for a bowl waiver,” said UCLA Director of Athletics Dan Guerrero in a release. “We will be able to give our 18 seniors one more chance to represent their university and end their collegiate careers on a high note, regardless of the outcome of this Friday’s Pac-12 Championship Game. We’d like to thank the NCAA for considering the unique situation in which we find ourselves this year and rewarding us with this opportunity.”

The reason this was in question was because UCLA finished the regular season at 6-6, in second place in the Pac-12's South Division, but due to USC's postseason ban, the Bruins were the team to move on to the championship game. Well, if UCLA loses that game against heavily-favored Oregon, the Bruins would be 6-7 on the season, and teams with losing records aren't normally allowed to play in bowl games.

That is, not without a waiver from the NCAA.

As for where UCLA would play in a bowl game, CBSSports.com's Jerry Palm currently has the Bruins projected to face Illinois in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl.
I have nothing against UCLA, but this is asinine!

I so hope that all bowls pass on UCLA even with this exemption.

I know integrity doesn't exist in college football so they'll get an invite anyway, but wow. If you want a bowl, be better.

As much as I hate the fact that UCLA made the conf title game with a terrible record and because USC was on probation this seems the correct decision. UCLA shouldn't be penalized for making a conference title game and using it. If they finished 6-6 they would have made a bowl anyway. And with the ridiculous number of bowl games it's not like this is screwing some great team from making a bowl game.

It's not screwing a great team. Odds are it's screwing a little team from a small conference who probably needs the money way more than UCLA does.

More like the Kraft Fired Coaches Bowl. UCLA and Illinois facing each other with interim coaches. And one of the fired coaches led his team to their conference championship game.

College football can get quite bizarre at times.

Not sure that's the most correct way to put it -- more like one of the fired coaches ended up in the conference championship game with a .500 record by default because USC was ineligible.

Hopefully UCLA's deal with Peterson is a done deal and they can start reclaiming the L.A. area from Lame Kiffin.

Is that the rumor right now? All I've heard and seen is that he is their number one target. I must have missed some news!

I never thought he would leave Boise State for UCLA.

Just here at my office, thousands of miles away. One of the partners is perhaps the most die-hard fan of any team I've ever known, and he claims it's a done deal and will be announced after Boise State's last game this weekend.

I'm sure it's based on Internet rumors though so who knows lol.

If true, that is a phenomenal hire. He's a fantastic coach.

The only thing lame is your post. Lane Kiffin is one helluva coach.

Kiffin is a great coach, no doubt. But Chris Petersen is on a whole different level, what he did at Boise State was brilliant.

Based on what exactly? His prior head coaching jobs were Oakland and Tennessee where he had a combined 12-21 record, walking out on Tennessee and leaving a bare cupboard. USC has had a better than expected season, but I'd wait till he actually accomplishes more than one good season before calling him a good coach.

It's possible. Even a crappy game coach can look good at USC given how easy it is to score 4 and 5-star recruits there.

It's being reported that Arizona State has offered their head coaching job to Houston's Kevin Sumlin. Multiple outlets say that report is false but that the offer will come after Houston plays in the C-USA title game. I can't imagine Sumlin staying at Houston. Texas A&M fired Mike Sherman yesterday and Sumlin is supposedly their top target, and he's been mentioned as a possibility for Mississippi and UCLA as well.

I don't get why more teams aren't interested in Baylor's Art Briles. He's the one that built Houston into the team it is now, taking a middle of the road team to C-USA champions (and recruiting many of the current Houston players), and then taking a terrible Baylor team and turning them into a top 25 team.

I'd rather see LSU-Oklahoma State. I want to see LSU's great defense face Oklahoma State's great offense. I'm kind of conflicted over who I think should play in the title game. I think Alabama is the second best team in the country but at the same time they've already faced LSU at home and lost so I'm not sure if they deserve another chance. I think ultimately I'd rather see Oklahoma State (if they beat Oklahoma) or Stanford get a title shot.

I agree had Ok State not lost I'd have said hands down they should get in over Bama, even if Bama was still better. But nobody has proven they're better than either one of those teams (bama/lsu), which is why I wouldn't be against seeing the teams again (yes its less fun but I'm ok with that )
