jhiggy should cough up the $14.99 and buy Heat if he agrees with you.
his blu-ray shopping list is a little busy right now - Criterions are only $18

A Serious Man. 2.5/5

First Cohen Bros. movie I've not really cared for. Just found it dull, honestly. Not much more to say about it than that. Wasn't interested in the characters, not much plot. Just watching a guy's life continually go down the crapper, with seemingly no point to it all.

Dead Calm, via Netflix HD streaming. 9 out of 10.

Great suspense, along with great acting. Billy Zane's best work.

The Bounty Hunter. It was was decent, probably doesn't have rewatchability to me though. 2.5/5 .

Youth in Revolt. I thought this was good and had some really funny parts in it. 3.5/5 .

Isn't this the basic plot of every Cohen Bros. movie?

haha know what's ironic? I have a $5 gift card to Target, where I do my grocery shopping (got it when I bought x amount of an item) and somewhat often get blus. They had A Few Good Men for $10 and Heat for $15. I went back a few days ago to get A Few Good Men but it was gone. There was one copy of Heat left, and I would've been able to get it for $10, but the Criterion sale stopped me! I'm really thinking of picking another Criterion up, so I don't want to spend additional money on Heat, but it's veryyy tempting and I'm gonna be at Target tomorrow!

Vivre sa Vie arrives today from netflix for me. I will be watching it tomorrow, and always, post my review.

I'm gonna have to get Chungking on netflix next, so that I can pick it up before the Criterion sale ends if I like it, which I'm sure I will.

haha yeah I need to see it again too---one viewing is hardly enough!

Some ppl think that sub-plot is unnecessary but I disagree--I think it's very important because it helps establish Pacino's character. Without a doubt one of the best crime films of all-time. Few would disagree.

When my 200 dvds were stolen from my apt a few years back, Heat was one of four that remained...so I still have the dvd!!!! haha

I'll be getting it soon enough, but my purchasing follows a distinct pattern. I only buy a blu when it's a deal that I can't pass up, usually because the price won't get as low as I could get it for for a long time. For example, I just bought Lovely Bones off someone on here, sealed, for $14. It's barely dropped below $20. I also got on here in the past 3 weeks Transporter (sealed) for $6, Harry Potter 5 (sealed) for $7, Cars w/ slip for $13, and Triangle for $12.

I do really need to add Heat though. Every movie on my wishlist is price tracked and I have six films that meet my low price!

I haven't heard of anyone who actually liked this yet, but it was a best pic nom over some very deserving titles (Messenger, Last Station, Stoning of Soraya M., etc.). Maybe Gremal was right

Squid hasn't returned from watching The Return. I fear his brain may have exploded or, in the alternative, he got so pissed that he threw his remote at his tv and broke it.

Inception - 10/10
I saw this at a midnight showing this morning and it is by far the best move I've seen all year, as far as movies released this year go. It was real interesting seeing how far into depth they went with the whole concept of inception. The ending was just perfect, as well.

30 viewings won't hardly be enough when you think about it, this kind of film is the ultimate in a "value purchase".

Days of Heaven (blu) (Criterion)

PQ: 4.5 (out of 5)

AQ: 4.5 (out of 5)

Extras: extremely good and informative, but I don't give extras a rating unless I've seen them all.

Film: 3 1/2 stars (out of 4)

By now you all know I'm obsessed with Malick, so I won't bore you with writing a real review of the film. This was the first time I saw it on blu. Previously, I had watched it on my computer, on dvd, and even in a movie theater at my old apartment complex. This is a film that needs to be seen on a big screen, just like David Lean's films (which I haven't seen on the big screen). However, seeing it on blu was still incredible. I haven't seen the film since I finished my thesis three years ago, but it still has a lot of power for me. I've watched mostly foreign and classic films since then, and still no film even comes close to being shot as beautifully as this. There quite literally is no rival, and Ebert agrees. That doesn't mean the film is without it's problems, of course.

What surprised me was the audio. For films that are dialogue based, I give 4 stars as a default if the dialogue is clear. This film, however, deserved a 4.5 for one scene alone, and that was one of the first scenes of the movie, where Gere is throwing coal into the fire. WOW. I literally jumped out of my seat because of how realistic it sounded. I've seen a lot of the great audio tracks, and although this film doesn't come remotely close to being as good as them (of course not, it's a dialogue film), that single moment was as good as any single moment I've seen on blu yet (note: I don't mean best sounding SCENE--that encompasses much more. I mean single sound effect).

Surf--I'm very confused how you gave the PQ a 3.5? That's one of the lowest scores I've seen you give for PQ and this is an incredible transfer! Just bc a film is beautifully shot doesn't mean the PQ will be good, I know. However, the PQ is still very strong here. Detail and depth are very good, and clarity of backgrounds is astounding. Notice how almost every scene allows you to see the house in the background, even when it's very tiny. EXPLAIN YOURSELF NOW!

Revanche

Film: 5/5
-I really wanted to watch Criterions I havent' seen yet on Netflix-instant, but after buying this, couldn't help but pop it in for a third viewing...and I can't wait for a fourth!!!
-Everything about this film is perfect: cinematography, script, acting, themes.

PQ is incredible, 5/5. My jaw dropped at some of the rural scenes around the pond.

AQ is also great, 4/5.

I agree. I think Playtime is also an ultimate "value purchase." Every scene is so meticulously created and there's so much going on, that I could watch it over and over. Thanks for forcing me to see it!
