Happy to report Mermaid Legend is really good. I might prefer Luminous Woman overall but the last act of Mermaid Legend is particularly fantastic.

I think this and Typhoon Club are the standout entries in the series.

Just dropping in to say that Scent of a Spell is fantastic, can't recommend it enough to anyone who enjoyed Love Hotel. It's from the same screenwriter, Takashi Ishii, and you can absolutely tell it's from the director of Mermaid Legend, Toshiharu Ikeda. It's sort of like a pinku neo-noir that builds to its inevitable conclusion so steadily, with these beautiful crossfades and flashes of ethereal violence. A real rain-soaked gem.

Mermaid Legend also has this haunting theme. Simple and beautiful

I tried reading the book after the film announcement but couldn't get into it. Excited to see the film though.

you don't have the DVD set from artsmagic? i tried rewatching them recently, and ... they'd at least need a BD to look remotely viewable. i stopped before i got to 'red classroom', which was my favourite back when they came out. i don't think they'll ever reappear though.

Two, as far as we know.

... first two are already certified by the BBFC. the other two are confirmed via TWF on bluesky.

all of these interest me, and it would be the one set known of this year to match my tastes very well. i am sure there are other films from takashi ishii that i and others would like too.

Ah yes. A boxset... The theme being Takashi Ishii.

We have one Angel Guts, but no others, Night in Nude, but not the sequel.

I shouldn't act spoiled, but it would be nice honor the basic existing threads between the films.

I do have the DVD set. I tried to be Blu-ray only, but there are still quite a few titles that continue to be overlooked.

i'm waiting to see what form the set takes. thinking of the toyoda sets, with early and late editions. maybe we get another ishii set that has the later things.

that said, holding onto ideas of japanese films you happen to have learnt about finally making a western release at some point, and buying what matches up closer to those areas at very least, is far wiser than imagining anything and everything is great and it will somehow do in the meantime. there's so much, it's never meant to be kept on top of, just selected from as and when required or possible.

My local HMV has a sale, of sorts, on TWF titles, with some older ones being reduced to 15 or 17 quid, and Taste of Tea to £13.99.

there will be a Nikkatsu Roman Porno Angel Guts box coming next year from us.

This set is sort of a spin-off from our Directors Company series as it starts with Original Sin, which started filming as a Directors Company film and focuses on 4 films Ishii made within a 2 year period from that

So it's a set focusing on a specific time period.
