I currently have four Def Tech SR8040s as my surrounds and heights, along with my CF 70s and CC10.
Honestly all surrounds don't have to match but it's nice if they match as everything will blend in better, the most important as I have mentionned before is to have a matching front sound stage because there is a lot of left to right and right to left action in a movie.

I do like the bipolar speakers for surrounds as they do sound well but they are to diffuse for front heights. I called Def Tech and they told me that the timbre would match between the pro 1000s and the SR8040s but I read that running bipolar with monopole surrounds will clash a bit, is this true. I'm worried that my front heights will improve but at the sacrifice of my rear surrounds.

I have no experience with front heigh so it's a bit hard for me to tell you about that and not to much documetation is available maybe you could look at the doc of an AVR that supports 9.2 or 11.2 like yours.

I have looked at a yammy documentation and there is no mention about it, only thing is that auto setup sometime has problem setting up bipole or dipole speakers.

I heard the older Energy C7s again today. I have to say that in comparison to the current Energy CF50s, the C7s have better bass and a cleaner overall sound in the mids. However the highs on the CF50s are probably a little less veiled and more open. The sound staging on the C7s was conjested compared to what Im listening to at home. The instruments lacked seperation from the vocals in all the songs that I listened to. I think if it were time to buy either the CF50s or the C7s I think I like the C7 a little more. Overall, the C7s were a great sounding speaker... I can't believe that it is nearly 8 yrs old, but its a very good speaker. I heard them next to a pair of Dali Ikon 7s, which I also listened to, and everything was played off a Parasound 2100 pre-amp with a Parasound 2250 2-ch amp.

So Ikon or C7, I say Ikon hands down for sure. No way those Conoisseur outperform the Ikon even that ribbon doe not sounf so harsh when paired with the right gear and I am sure that parasound amp made the Ikon shine.

well this is the 2nd time Ive heard both the Ikon 7s and C7s. I wasn't expecting the C7s to keep up with the Ikons, esp since the Ikons are 2.5 times the cost. However the C7s were much better then Inthought they woule be,

What kind of towers would you suggest checking out in the $1,000 to $1,500 price range?

I'm looking for Energy or another brand if they're better then what energy has to offer within that price range. I would like to keep my budget to under $2000 for the towers and maybe a center if I could get a deal. The room is 16X18 ft. with an archway opening to kitchen in the back. I would like something that sounds great with music (mostly rock) but also sounds good for movies and tv. I currently have Energy cf50's and a cc10 with an E.D. A2 300. I think this setup works well with movies but, I am somewhat dissatisfied when it comes to listening to music. Just wanted to get an idea of what's out there for when I decide to upgrade. I was considering getting CF70's with some Outlaw M-Blocks but now I may try new speakers entirely.

Apparantly they are even nicer than the C-7 and saw a pair go for 450 lately on Canuck Audio Mart.

250 is good and if they are in the black piano finish with dark gray front baffle they look amazing.

I currently just have a Pioneer VSX 1120-K but, I have been looking into Outlaw Monoblocks. I wanted to get an XPA3 but, it's too big to fit in my entertainment center. Actually, all Emotiva amps are to deep to fit in my stand.

I know Callas suggested the Ikon 6 but with center might go a bit over your 2K budget but you could also look into the Lektors, sounds amazing too, I heard the Ikon 5 and the Lektor 6 and I can say the Lektor's performance is not so far off the Ikon.

you know, I thought I said the Lektor 6s. I meant the Lektor 6s. The Lektor 6 and LCR would be a fantastic setup for about $1500

The Lektors and Ikons are basically the same speakers, except the Ikons add the ribbon tweeter. Either way, they are both great speakers.

Blu Balls should definetly get 2-3 Outlaw Monos to power them tho. They will love those amps.

Thanks! Now I have to hunt down some places that sell these so i can audition them. I'm sure there are some high end stores in the Chicago area but, I don't want to pay their bloated retail prices. What about the paradigm studio 60's? Do you think they would be good for both music and movies?

I found that the Studio 60s sounded veiled, and not as open as my Dynaudios.

Then I would strongly recommend pairing them with Anthem or Parasound gear which would end up costing you more.

if you consider rock the Studios are usually a good choice but they dig low in impedance even if they are 8 ohms. They are power hungry speakers.
