Finally got my copy of this today!
Maaaan oh man is this stacked to the brim with special features or what! and all of them are really fascinating too.
I've been watching them for the last few hours and still aren't finished yet
At this point I would say it would be impossible to not put this into my list of favorite blu ray releases of the year, and VERY high up on it!

I pre-ordered this from Diabolik but didn't get any confirmation and my account said no current orders. Since this was my first order from them, I waited until the 2nd to contact them just to make sure it wasn't on the way. Jesse Responded that day, letting me know that they missed my order but he already refunded the shipping and sent it out. Even during the holiday week, it was in my mailbox Saturday- three buisness days later. Many thanks to Jesse and the folks at Diabolik for excellent customer service. As for the movie, I won't have a chance to watch it until this weekend but the soundtrack is awesome.

I disagree. The multi-layered narrative is an old stable of art-house cinema and was at that time rather unusual to find in mainstream or exploitation movies. Of course, nowadays you see it used in a plethora of big-budget mainstream movies. But in CH the layered narrative is also used to juxtapose events and even provide ironic commentary on them, reminding the viewer that what we see is artifice and that we constantly are being manipulated (the in-movie comments on the use of non-diegetic music comes to mind). In that way, CH very much becomes a film about film, about the making of films and our reception of them, and is lifted up from the "mere" exploitation of sex and violence of its contemporary counterparts.

Of course, CH at its core was produced as exploitation and was originally often shown at seedy theaters. But to claim that it never had any sort of art-house following is demonstrably wrong. This is not only backed up by the number of serious books, articles and academic papers that have been written about it through the years, but also the simple fact that now it is not only being shown at revival and cult cinemas but also at the film museums of the world, where it receives as much attention and praise as any work of Fellini.

Just got my copy today from B&N. Came in mint condition, thank god.

This is my first BD from Grindhouse and am very impressed with the packaging. The slipbox feels nice and sturdy. It's definitely a quality product. Are all Grindhouse releases this well made?

Also some people are talking about a cannibal/jungle trilogy. What are the other two films and are they connected?

Thanks

Could anyone help me out on who's offering the best price for this? I'm kind of doubtful that this will drop in price anytime soon, so I might as well snatch it while I have the funds.

Great post! I felt like I was listening to Patric Bateman. I wanted you to add "Do you like Phil Collins?"

I ordered it from Bull Moose on Sunday and it was in stock. Total price after shipping was just over $25.

Jungle Holocaust and Cut And Run. The movies themselves aren't directly connected, they all stand on their own. They just share the same director. I don't think the tribe in Cut And Run were even cannibals, if I recall correctly.

I own Jungle Holocaust in Shriek Show's Jungle Horrors Triple Feature. They used to have it for $15 at Best Buy, but looks like it's out of print. It's a fun little set. Massacre In Dinosaur Valley is absolutely hilarious. Of the Deodato trilogy, Jungle Holocaust is by far the weakest of the three.

Anchor Bay released Cut & Run on DVD, but I think that is out of print as well. I'd guess Image owns it now, but they never re-released it on DVD. I have the flipper disc with Dead End Drive-In. It's a really fun little jungle horror film, definitely worth seeking out. Even though Cannibal Holocaust is a much better film, I find this one to be much more re-watchable. It's definitely not as serious, it's more of an adventure film with some pretty violent gore set-pieces.

Then I guess I better jump on it. While I'm in the habit of paying >$20 for single blu-rays, $25 seems reasonable considering collectors status of this release.

There's no mention of the enclosed soundtrack cd on the reversible sleeve. The slipbox mentions "3 disc deluxe edition 2 Blu-Rays + CD". The reversible sleeve mentions "2 Disc Deluxe Edition Blu Ray".

A some point, there'll be just the 2 disc edition.

I love Jungle Holocaust, by the way.

Thanks, but I actually just snatched it for $26.98 (including shipping) from deep discount.

I have a great coffee table book about Lucio Fulci by Stephen Thrower and it's an intelligently written assessment of his work. But he would be appalled at the idea that Fulci is "art house". Same is the case with this for anybody who has any sense.

There haven't been lots of serious, academic books written about Cannibal Holocaust. There is one book about Deodato's career named after the film and otherwise it gets name checked in books about European horror and censorship.

If you really think that the film receives as much universal attention and acclaim as Fellini's work then it's time to switch your meds.

Thanks for posting that! I just placed an order. It was only $1.99 more than what Deep Discount was charging, and it would have been a little more than $28.XX if I placed an order over at DiabolikDVD. The fact that Bull Moose had it in stock was a good selling point too.

I've never ordered from them, do they pack items fairly well?

This is my first time ordering from them. When the bluray arrives I'll give a report.
