rumor has it he also wants to do a new Star Trek tv series. plus he has name value - same reason all those people who had nothing to do with the movies did commentaries for the bluray releases. if you don't count the 3 Blue Harvest episodes, Family Guy has done probably as many Star Trek jokes as it has Star Wars. I love the one with the TNG convention. the drive-thru scene is too funny.

Did not buy yet...curious...does the slipcover have a little delta on the side (to match the replacement slipcover for season 1), or no little delta (to match the original slipcover for season 1)? Personally I hope it has none since I have the original and want them all to match.

I watched the new featurettes last night. They were just as interesting and well-constructed as those on Season 1. The gag reel and cast reunion are truly excellent (never would've guessed that Dorn was such an instigator!). I hope they can keep up the reels on Seasons 3-7. Very excited to watch extended Measure of a Man tonight!

Got my set today, at Best Buy. The first 4 discs were great. Unfortunately disc 5 has a huge scratch, so I need to exchange it before I can enjoy those episodes.

Watched Time Squared, which is one of my favorite episodes. Looks better than I've ever seen it before, but....
There is definitely some film grain in some parts. I'd rather have grain than DNR, that's for sure, but it was more noticeable to me than S1. Most of the FX were great! But there was one thing this new company seems to be having some challenges with, and that was this: when the crew is next to a window with stars going by, something funky happens to the resolution of the people. It's slight but noticeable. Still, there were all sorts of details I coud appreciate, esp. Patrick Stewart's acting in this episode. He does a great job as two Picards here. Impressive. It's a little like a Twilight Zone episode, and a lot of fun. Last edited by benbess; 12-06-2012 at 11:01 AM. |

Season 2 was shot using a different filmstock. Also the show was lit differently in the second season resulting in a dark colour palette. Both these things have resulted in more noticable grain. I like and prefer it this way and it makes the show feel cinematic. However, the company that did the remastering DNR-ed the crap out of the visual effects shots. This means that the amount of grain can vary substantially from heavy to nonexistent in one scene.
