In my opinion? You are simply trying to get a rise out of Blu-Ray fans. IMO, you have been for the past several pages. You are using a forum that goes by the name of Blu-Ray.com.

Which talks only about Blu-ray titles. Absolutely nothing else.

I know that, but there are tons of forums out there. This one is specifically for Bluray. Why did you join if you hate Bluray and consider it 'old fashioned'? iTunes is just as old fashioned. Who uses downloads anymore? Spotify is where it's at. At least with Blu, I'm getting all that stunning quality. iTunes is a mess to use IMO.

If the title becomes unavailable on iTunes and your backups stop working then the titles will be unavailable. If a title is only available digitally it will one day be inaccessible to everyone.

My backups for Blu-ray are the thousands of other people who own the same Blu-ray. If my copy breaks I can buy from one of them long after the studios stops supporting each title.

With digital the studios control all distribution: when a title is delisted if you don't already have a copy you can't possibly get one (this applies to DRM-free titles as well).

The only reason why your backup files would become 'unavailable' would be due to the hard drive failing and unable to back up any files. Whether one removes the DRM from the file on a blu ray disc or from iTunes, you would still be able to play the file with several different programs or via a BD player. The studio wouldn't be able to control the file where the DRM has been removed or make it unplayable due to it being limited to one program/software no longer allows playback.

Anyone who invests in building a movie collection and elects to download and rip the DRM, should also be able to maintain their hard drives and make necessary additional backups if the current drive is showing signs of failing. The main issue is more about who will download and who will just keep it 'in the cloud.'

Well what's your equipment set up, I hope it's a HDTV or Projector 55" or bigger, a good Hard Wired Streaming Device, and plenty of Bandwidth 25Mbps+.

Hey Steedeel, at least you are talking some sense now. Anyone who basis their experience with Digital HD only with iTunes is like you say, not getting the Stunning Quality. They need to see and Experience HDX!

Whether or not they can make your collection unplayable, with digital the studios have full control over distribution. If a title is delisted it can no longer be purchased. Due to the used market this problem doesn't exist with physical media.

I'm not worried about losing my collection, I'm worried about titles becoming unavailable for everyone. With digital that can easily happen. With physical every copy in existence would have to be destroyed.

Let us say the bus ride is for about an hour and a half for the sake of argument.

Wouldn't that time be better spent playing some small game on the Ipad, tab etc or listening to music.

Once you do get back home, plop a blu ray and enjoy a quality experience, not to mention no distractions like when travelling etc.

Just a thought

When travelling, I always listen to music, browse the web, play a game or two...I wouldnt load up a movie on my smartphone, if I had my tablet, I might just put a couple of TV Shows on there

As for removing DRM from iTunes titles, what are you guys using? Some methods reduce quality btw

I have since ripped all the HD-DVDs to MKV files and they now reside on my NAS (which is regularly backed up). Digital files are much safer if you know what you are doing. Optical media are really dinosaurs IMO.
I agree with making MKV. I just did my LOST complete collection and I'm so glad. I found a bad disc from this set months after I bought it and Amazon was nice to replace the set... Still... I don't know that I have a "good" copy of anything until I back it up.

So, I am for "digital" as far we are talking about buying the disc then backing it up. I don't think we can talk about there here tho.

As far as streaming goes from stuff like Netflix... I hate it and I won't do it. The quality sux. I have a projector and 110 inch screen. Blu Ray looks good even that large but streaming looks like the junk that it is.

I don't need to, I already view the best with Blu-Ray. Why have a burger when the finest steak is available?

By the way, I have seen what used to be called Super HD on Netflix, it's decent but I'm guessing similar to HDX?
