Anyway, it is what it is, and I think the hybrid dub works okay here overall. I'd let the original author speak about its subtitles.

Speaking of coverage for both languages (though not applicable here on account of dialogue differences in the English dub), a counterpart SDH set was also produced (after the normal, which will be included) for the original Hong Kong Cantonese mono version (covering cues and smatterings of English - including dialogue and the song 'Midnight Rider').
I’m really happy to see that the hybrid dub has made it onto this release.

Is the English dub on the shorter cut the one with Jackie’s own voice?

No, that would most likely require licensing from Miramax, and they weren’t easy to contact a while back (for something else)!

Their DVD and the Blu-ray were amongst a number of issues I examined, and I suspect they cut down the Hong Kong version elements to match the international one (perhaps they were also provided a DigiBeta of it as a reference); for the DVD they weren’t very precise (some frames present that shouldn’t have been; a credit for Lola Porner, etc), but the Blu-ray was closer and used the original English credits.

Me too! Thanks for the heads up! So glad they have it up for preorder, didn’t realize that, saved me a few bucks off Amazon UK’s high shipping charges to the US. $40 shipped is worth it for such an insanely comprehensive limited collector’s edition of one of Jackie’s best films. It’s gonna look so good on my shelf next to the insanely comprehensive limited collector’s edition of the sequel!

While I want this movie, I really don't care about the swag or 2nd disc. Hoping they will release a Standard edition at a lower cost later.

They will release a standard version after the first print - its tradition (but I'm sure they'll still combine the 2nd disc). Yet they may run 2 LE prints due to the popularity

Not surprised to hear that about Miramax, unfortunate some of these titles are stuck with them.

This looks like it’s going to be a stacked release though, thanks for all the effort you guys put into this!

I couldn’t bear to split up a set like that. Not part of my collector’s mentality.

Out of curiosity, which ones were you not fond of?

I absolutely love JC so even the lesser movies have some value to me but that is definitely rose tinted glasses in full effect.

Armour of God is top tier Chan in my opinion though.

New fist of fury
To kill with intrigue
Dragon fist

Thought those were pretty bad

Then again most of them are fantastic, seems like the ones from the mid 80s on are the best

I agree on those ones being duds. Armour of God is many, many leagues above them.

Know this is probably a dumb question but will this have the dub from the Miramax Blu-Ray release?

NEW FIST OF FURY and TO KILL WITH INTRIGUE definitely aren’t the greatest, but I still wouldn’t want to part with them as they each have some good things in them. DRAGON FIST, however, I think is quite good, while of course not in the same league as the classics. And yes, I am a Jackie completist, at least up until 1995. 88’s restored versions of his Lo Wei period films have been real eye-openers for me. A lot of good stuff therein. I have every last one of them that’s been released so far. Looking forward to HALF A LOAF OF KUNG FU. Oh yeah, and that film with the god armour or some such thing…

Please put some remarks on the sound options in the booklet or menu. Which combination of end song and language was originally used where and maybe recommendation if theatrical or home video mix has better quality.
I like the many options, but it's bad if you can only find the information on the web, where it might get lost over time.

Also i think i read something about recutting the export version from the hong kong cut restoration, will this then have hong kong credits or will it be english like old VHS releases etc.?

I've had that issue choosing cuts and audio tracks on some of the releases, it's a minefield

It's not a minefield it's very simple, first Cantonese track is always the original audio.

(Home Video Tracks) usually have better fidelity but use a slightly different mix, sound effects are always original but the volume of dialogue, music & effects may vary.

In the case of Armour of God you have the option to choose the end song no matter what track you pick.
