Tarantino's theater in Hollywood runs it in 35mm several times every year. So it is possible (although probably very inconvenient) for people to confirm this fact for themselves. I was floored the first time I saw it on film at how dark it actually was. I thought it might have been exclusive to the print they were showing, but then they started running a new print struck in 2017 and it looked exactly the same
Interesting post, thanks. I saw it on its cinema release in 1992 but obviously can't remember how dark or not it was.

What's this "your kind" shit?

You're a deluded cornball, and you're proudly threadcrapping, which is against forum rules. Time for you to move on. Though I don't think anyone would shed a tear if you continued your middle-school-level impression of a badass and got yourself banned.

After inglorious basterds I thought the QT releases would mostly suck. Looks like there's hope for pulp fiction.

I don't really have a home cinema. I have a living room and a couch. And the moon doesn't return my calls anymore.

Oh, and Reservoir Dogs is a classic, Tarantino's best IMO. That Hindutstanley guy is off his tits!

Just wondering if you have seen any other movies in that theatre? Are they also shown equally as dark, or have you seen other movies in the same theatre which you considered do be displayed bright?

If you have not seen any movie being displayed bright in that theatre, maybe it’s the theatre’s choice to display movies dark in general.

I’ve never been there myself, but seeing pictures of it, it looks a bit retro style. Kinda cool, but I don’t know if it’s top notch tech spec-wise.

A fair question. I've watched countless movies there of all sorts of genres. Their projection and sound systems are fantastic, 35mm with Dolby SRD and DTS. No, they do not project movies to look particularly dark. Seen plenty of movies there that I also own BD and UHD copies of. I trust their presentation standards more than anyone else in town (the Aero in Santa Monica comes a close second).

Ok, nice. Not something you'd initially expect from only seeing pictures of it (i.e. The New Beverly Cinema). Looks really cool so I have to check it out if I'm ever in LA.
