Hi Jomari,

My apologies, I just realized there has been quite a bit of posts on this subwoofer thread (wow, it's been busy today which is cool)! I really appreciate the information that you've posted. Need to catch up on the posts!

Btw, if you guys get the Sin City Blu-ray, let me know how your subwoofers sound at the end (the final scene when Alba and Willis's character leave the barn and there is just this low sounding bass)...

OK, I'm going to mess around with my subwoofer placement again...if it's not supposed to be at +12db...I better fix things.

I will need to invest in an SPL meter but there are like so many that I see on eBay...some are cheap and some are expensive. Hehe...

Btw, are SPL meters that are used for car audio the same that can be used for home theaters...I see a cheap one...but is it one of those "you get what you pay for".

Yea I was thoroughly in love with the movie. It blew my socks off in every department. I picked a tattered sock off from my rear surround and another from the neighbors yard during the final explosion scenes.

That SPL meter may work. However, many of these low cost SPL meters only have A weighting. To properly calibrate HT audio, you need C weighting. The Radio Shack model has all these features plus more.

you want this to connect to your subwoofer, then connect one rca towards one sub, then the other to the secondary subwoofer.

on the subwoofer itself, you need this y adapter,

connecting your current subwoofer cable to one end, while the TWO prongs you connect to the LR of the subwoofer INPUT side of the subwoofer.

Tested this sub by the way tonight, felt a bit 'baseball-y', decided to play the old school "soundhound organ cd", to play some great tunes.

Spectacular. lifted my spirits up ten folds from a very hard day at work.

care for some waterfalls?

Ok I'm a bit confused here (pretty much normal for me ). Anyway is it the first or the second one pictured above that comes with the sub. I'm not running dual subs. So I just need the second one? If it doesn't come with the sub I'll go buy one assuming I don't have one around here somewhere. I think I have one some place. But I just need to know which it is.

And I presume on the receiver I just plug into one of the outputs on the HK AVR 247? If so anyone know which is the prefered port to use or doesn't it matter?

Thanks,

Bill

This is the Y adapter (1 male, 2 female) that comes in the box. It is useful for connecting two subwoofers to the receiver.

This is the Y adapter (2 male, 1 female) that you need to connect to the back of the subwoofer to get an additional few dB's of sound. You can buy the solid type or the Y cables.

If you run two subs can you also use the output on one sub (if the sub has it) and go to you're second sub instead of running another cable from you're receiver?

Yes, some subs do have the LFE out and you can run a sub cable from one sub to another.....

Thanks. I guess you would call it the "daisy chain effect". Would this degrade the signal at all? Is it better to run from the receiver if it has a second sub output?

I have never ran from one sub to another, but I have heard that the delay is so small you would never notice, So I would say no there wouldn't be any signal degradation, but I am sure in a few hours BD can confirm or call me a liar.... But me personally the way my room is setup I would run a splitter in the back of the reciever out to both subs. That is what I am gonna do once I get a 2nd sub, both will be in the front, one on the right and one on the left....

My understanding is that it's only useful if you face the sub differently then your front speakers? It is kinda weird it doesn't have it but then that's probably why it's so cheap. They have to shave costs somehow to reach this price point. Maybe Big Daddy will jump in and enlighten us as to how much of a loss this really is?

Looking at the pictures again I thought someone said this thing was ported? But I don't see a port on it? Unless that is a gap in the back near the top and they are using that as the port? I always thought ports were round though?

I guess at the end of the day I'm more interested in how well it sounds, then how many toys it has on it. My guess is no one plays with it once they have setup in the room.

Okay, so I've been lurking around this thread for quite some time... since near the beginning, and all along I've been very interested in the HD-SUB12, but was waiting to piece the rest of my system together first... finally I've got that done.

Right now I'm down between the HD-SUB12, the PA-120, and the BIC F12. All three are within around $30 of eachother, and I'm trying to stay around the sub-$250 mark. Has anyone had any experience comparing any of them? I know there's some individual threads around, but I've yet to see any good comparisons.

I am right now leaning towards the HD-SUB12 simply because of all the positive reaction in this thread; everyone seems to be very happy with their AA purchases. I see some other forums where people are bashing AA, but no one there actually owns one... so I'm thinking this thread has much more credibility.

That's the thing - decent entry level subs are hard to find, and in the last few months, eD and AA seem to have exploded, apparent by them being the top two largest threads in the subwoofer forum.
