Exactly this!! I don’t give a single shit which way people prefer to watch anime and other foreign media, we all have our preferences and reasons for liking what we do. HOWEVER, sub watchers are typically much more entitled in their preference than dub watchers (don’t get me wrong, there are entitled dub watchers too, but not nearly as many) and it’s like they feed off their thinking that dub watchers are some kind of peasants that they can just shit all over and everyone is supposed to be fine and cool with it. (Lord forbid we stand up for ourselves in response!) We’ve got a few such people here, who like to bring it up at every godforsaken opportunity and it’s aggravating. Your viewing preference does not make you some kind of god, who is able to treat others as badly as you wish. F*** right on off and out of this community if that’s how you’re always going to be, it’s annoying and narcissistic. We’re here for a good time, not a consistent power trip!

There are way too people out there who choose to be so concerned with what others are watching. Everyone has their preference and some enjoy both, so just let them be. We don't need anyone to constantly tell us which is "better" or "should" be watched, especially when they love to do so without being asked or they're just usually c***y about it. At the very least, one's opinion doesn't have to be stated so harshly and shouldn't make a point of saying something in every discussion. We get it, just say it once or twice and move on.

It's also funny how people will chalk their distaste up to bad acting when many sub watchers DON'T know Japanese and therefore can't understand the cadence, nuance and technical patterns of speech (like pitch accents) by just listening to the native language, not that the native seiyus are bad by any stretch, but it's a straw man argument when you don't know Japanese fluently. Have your preference, but don't be ignorant in your approach like many dub-phobic remarks are.

Dubbing is actually quite a lot of work that gets little respect for the craft. You have to translate (not transliterate), you have to edit the script to match the mouthflaps, some large English words are short Japanese words and vice versa and you must compensate for it with filler or making something succinct. Jokes (especially about wordplay / etymology, stuff that might rhyme in one language, etc) or have just won't operate in another language. Saying American dubs suck is a flagrant pot shot and it's devoid of any real substance. As someone who can appreciate both languages (and studies them), I teeter back and forth depending.

Someone posted about a chaotic bunch of brats at a Sailor Moon R premiere years ago. I went to one in my city and everyone was civilized. There were both dub and sub screenings. It's ridiculous to hear fans behaved that way. Gross, really.

I generally agree, and dont care how people watch things. So if anything I posted set this off, I'm sorry. I for one was just giving my personal opinion on one particular dub I dont like. I also mentioned a dub I did like to be balanced.

Like I said that’s the point of Usagi’s character. Usagi being a crybaby is meant to be annoying like how it bothers Sailor Mars/Rei but when she isn’t is where the whole like where the Actress does have to sound good comes in and where Usagi does sound more like the main character.

Of course i’ve seen series and videogames that have male and female main characters who sound pretty whiny throughout the whole series or game.

And no those days of using an alias name are not over with. Maybe never will. Many English Dubs now have people uncredited especially in videogames. Glitter Force on Netflix doesn’t credit any actress or actor in it and other examples. So better to use an alias then go uncredited.

Definitely. I've watched enough movies and TV shows in Japanese language (live action and anime) that I can often spot poorly acted lines, but many people seem to think the Japanese don't have any bad VAs because they can't tell when something is poorly acted.

Another thing I laugh at hearing from sub purists is the whole, "Well American studios reuse the same actors over," while ignoring that Jouji Nakata is in what feels like every anime ever made. Not to mention all of the series that feature Hikaru Midorikawa, Kazuki Yao, Kenjiro Tsuda, Romi Park, Tomi Sakezeki, Takehito Koyasu, etc. It's like these people think Japanese VAs voice one character and that's it for their entire career. Maybe for some of the VAs from One Piece, but not for 99% of the industry.

What's Glitter Force? Also, that sucks ass that Netflix does not credit them properly. Do they think this is 1998?

Anyway, I finished SuperS today. What a terrific finale for such a lackluster season. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it, but Toei was really running out of ideas for Monsters of the Week and episode plots by this point given how the monsters barely do anything and the plots usually don't even kick off until about the halfway point and then resolved a few minutes later. Thankfully, the dibs the villains would make at the heroes, especially Tuxedo Mask, kept things entertaining. Not to mention that Palla-Palla is one sadistic airhead.

Looking forward to Stars soon. This will be my first time actually finshing the show in release order.

I get what you're saying about her "purposely" being annoying as a crybaby, but I think the actress needs to be consistent. It shouldn't sound like there are 2 VAs and you should be able to tell that it is always the same one regardless of how Usagi is behaving. Also, whenever she is not a crybaby, then we shouldn't be hearing it at all. I'd have to re-watch the series a little to see what I think, but as I am trying to say, there are times we still hear crybaby Usagi when that shouldn't be the case and it can make the VA sound more generally (not just when she is a crybaby) annoying.

Glitter Force is a magical girl series that’s also from Toei known as Pretty Cure in Japan.

I remember when Black Clover came out in Japan everyone was complaining about Asta’s Japanese voice since Asta is always screaming or yelling. When the Dub came out, I haven’t heard any complaints for the Dub actor’s voice or at all for Asta since only just that people were bored with like the 1st half of Season 1.

There’s also the Doki Doki one. But the original series was Dubbed for Canadians only with calling it Pretty Cure and do remember that the Subtitled version appeared on Crunchyroll and Funimation. Crunchyroll might still have it. I haven’t checked. 4Kids was going to do it for U.S. but never went through it. But the Canadian Dub was mostly Uncut. Just name changes.

Lol no. The Japanese voice actors record their lines first way in advance and then the animators animate the mouths to match the recorded vocals. This is how all animation is produced Japanese or Western. Dubs are done after the animation is already complete.

Unless things have changed recently, they typically don’t do it that way. The Japanese animators estimate the proper amount of lip flaps and the seiyuu do their best to make it fit when they record. I’ve seen tons of behind the scenes videos of retro anime detailing this process.

Very few anime are "pre-scored." The most famous example was Akira, but stuff like Red Garden, MMO Junkie, Gundam Thunderbolt and pretty much every fully CG anime are done that way.

Dub vs sub is the geeky anime equivalent to a political argument. It keeps popping up where it doesn't belong, it's painful to watch, it's pointless, everyone has their preferences, nobody is going to change anyone's mind, and it shouldn't matter.
