Very good Third Window offers at Rarewaves at the moment (under the 2 for 16£). Finally got a bunch I'd kept postponing and had even removed from my wishlist. There's more I could want and it's tempting as we can't get Third Window titles often at these prices, but I should also actually watch something before getting more.

Saw Mad Cats in the Rarewaves 2 for £16 offer and thought great, I'll pair it with One Percenter... and One Percenter isn't in the deal. Scrolled through all 26 pages looking for something (NOT standard editions where a better version exists) I could pair it with... nothing. Oh well.

I’ve found plenty as I barely bought any Third Window stuff since late 2023, but yeah I was really hoping One Percenter was in there too

Next one after that I believe are Kaizo Hayashi and Angel Guts Collection.
Thanks. How many Angel Guts films are in said set? I recall Adam saying he couldn't get the rights to ALL 6 of them. Also odd that the Takashi Ishii set doesn't include Angel Guts: Red Vertigo (5th film in the series), the first of said series that Ishii directed.

If you’re also including DVDs, they released a Miki Satoshi set featuring three films in a box.

That was just previously released titles put in a box.

Any recommendations for the Rarewaves deal? Most are blind buys for me. Currently looking at Door 1 & 2 (blind buy) and Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes (previously watched).

I'm so stoked on the Takashi Ishii set, and the upcoming Angel Guts set, But I'm in Canada. I kinda hate to ask, but @thirdwindowfilms is there any chance these have been licenced out for North America?

Ishii is my third favorite director and his incredible movies have been bafflingly neglected since the DVD era.

No one knows how many are included atm but so far Film 2 (Red Classroom) and Film 4 (Red Porno) have been rated by the BBFC under Third Window's name.

So it's just Film 1 (High School Co-Ed), Film 3 (Nami) and Film 5 (Red Vertigo) left to see if they're included or not.

As for why Red Vertigo wasn't included in the Ishii set I think its because the four films that were in that set were the ones restored in HD altogether.

According to the BBFC site 3 have been rated:

Angel Guts: Red Classroom (Chûsei Sone, 1979) (06/05/2025)
Angel Guts: Red Porno (Toshiharu Ikeda, 1981) (16/06/2025)
Angel Guts: Red Flash (Takashi Ishii, 1994) (13/11/2024)

The last one might give a clue as to roughly how long between being rated by the BBFC & it being announced (or release date to be technically correct) as to an idea how long the other two will take.

For the 4 Ishii films from my set.

There's a US-based aggregator who started working with the rights holder of the 4 films after I acquired them, and taking the sales rights to many films from the rights holder, including those 4.
Instead of being a classic 'distributor' they're working as an aggregator to either sell the rights on (if they can find a buyer) or just work as an aggregator to US VOD networks.
As it's much easier, I assume that they'll just put them on some North American VOD sometime soon, but for a physical release, I'm not sure.

I had initially spoken to Error4444 to share the costs and do a split release, but then the aggregator came in, so instead I just introduced them to Error4444, but I don't know if anything came of it.

This upcoming set was, as you say, 4 titles that were all restored in HD together, handled by the same company.

Red Flash is also quite different from the Angel Guts series, as it wasn't a Nikkatsu Roman Porno like the others

The Angel Guts box set will include
Red Classroom
Nami
Red Porno
Red Vertigo

plus will also include Red Flash as a bonus disc for those who don't buy the Takashi Ishii set

High School Coed cannot be released due to issues with the lead actress not allowing it to be re-released

iirc, it's possible to embargo a certification, so it doesn't act as a leak for an announcement. sometimes they're not, for whatever reason.

i will be interested to see if terracotta list the angel guts set for purchase. they don't appear to want to stock the 88 films line of RP, but have shinji somai's 'love hotel'. they do sell plenty of stuff in exactly the same or astonishingly similar territory, especially the HK Cat III stuff.

Interesting. Never heard of this and sounds like they picked up more than just these films? Hmm. I wonder if it will be easy to license from them and if they will be asking for more money than they should? Hopefully Team Error can work something out.

Have these guys released anything in the past, or are they just getting into business?

they've been around for a long time, mainly focusing on straight to video american action and old kung-fu films.

basically, they work like a 'sales agent' for films, in which they represent a company's catalogue and work on a commission based way of trying to match the films up with local distributors or just putting them on VOD platforms.
So I'm sure they will try to sell the video rights for the films, but who knows if or when that'll happen. I'm sure they'll end up on TUBI soon enough though.

Interesting. Wonder who they can be? (Hi-yah?) I also wonder how often they successfully actually license things out? I guess we'll know soon enough who they are if they are up on Tubi, but hopefully they make a deal in the US. Really good films.

Thanks so much for the very clear reply. I have been waiting with bated breath for Error4444 to announce these since your announcement. Guess I'll have to keep hoping for now.

The set looks amazing by the way. I love the use of Ishii's art, the packaging is great.

I'm hoping, of course, that the Angel Guts films get a release in North America too.

Belated thanks for this; I don't think I would have heard about it otherwise.

Picked up Mad Cats and The Taste of Tea; including shipping costs it still came to only $15 US each.

Anyone had anything dispatch as of yet? Would love to partake in the offer with the added 10% off but moving house next weekend and not sure these would arrive before or after then…wish Rarewaves were a bit more reasonable with shipping times, and I’ve had some issues with them refunding me for cancelled orders recently too.
