I'm hoping its like the Aniplex Gurren Lagann Complete Set or the Devilman Crybaby set, perfect use of that style of disc storage.

Same, although I'm a bigger fan of thinpak sets so they only take up half the space on a shelf.

So

Who's gonna be the hero that scans the covers from the collectors edition so I can print them to put in cases for my ultimate edition discs?

I don't wanna have to be pulling that whole ass thing out anytime I wanna watch it :'o

(preferably from the UK release, if there's any differences)

So I know I'm jumping the gun here, but do you all think GKids will eventually get the Rebuilds? I don't see 3.0+1.0 coming out in Japan till at least December on Blu-ray.

It seems like Funimation lost the license so I wonder if we'll have another situation where there are multiple box sets with both the Funi dub and the new Amazon dub. EDIT: I just saw the post a page earlier about GKids saying the Rebuilds are under a different distributor. Still makes me wonder why 1.11 is out of print and now 2.22 and 3.33 is going up in price.

Funimation is losing the license. Only Amazon currently has the rights and for now it's streaming only. Gkids could get it but it will be awhile until we know.

That's good news, but this is a franchise that needs to be in good hands. I mean, Amazon could be if they made physical releases.

I hope Viz never gets a chance to own it.

To my knowledge there has not been any photo released yet from GKids that shows the disc mounting on the inside of those sleeves.
Considering that the depth of the Ultimate Edition is a whopping 4 inches, I'd assume the disc placement looks like this. The depth wouldn't be 4 inches if the disc holders were thin sleeves with holes on the inside. That's my guess anyway.

This is what I suggested and hope is what GKids goes with

You sure you want the covers from the CE? I know they're supposed to correspond to each of the Eva Units, but these covers are a bit football-jersey IMO and don't really evoke Evangelion at all.

Personally, I'm hoping someone makes custom covers for the CE as well, maybe using the same art featured on those cards that come with it? I'm imagining the front of each case with one of the pilots on it - Shinji for Vol 1, Asuka for Vol 2, Rei for Vol 3. On the back of each case you'd have the "legal guardian" of each pilot - Misato for Shinji, Kaji for Asuka, Gendo for Rei.

Highly unlikely either of those happen. I’m expecting GKIDS to get the license, but stranger things have happened. I would low-key love for Sentai to get them only as a big middle finger to Funimation. Of course, that will probably never happen.

Yeah I know they look pretty bland, but I like keeping things as close to "official" as possible. Since the ultimate and collector's editions use the same discs, figured I'd just go with that. People can make cool custom things, but using them just feels bootleg to me.

If I really had to go with something else, I'd probably prefer the 3 covers the Italian edition is getting, those look pretty nice.

I'm kinda out of the loop on Anime distributor discourse, why does everyone hate funimation so much?

It’s a long story that goes back almost 20 years to the DVD times.

Poor video quality, inconsistent packaging, won't admit to screwing up discs, etc.

Their DVDs were sometimes spectacularly bad. The Blu-rays they do these days are fine, but anime fans don’t forget

I remember when people complained about their FMA Brotherhood video quality. Aniplex's version was 100 times better.

Damn, is there a comparison between the two releases somewhere? I've got the original madman releases from back in the day, I assume they use the same material as the funi ones :s

I never noticed anything while watching
