Last night I watched The Walk

I thought the 3D conversion was excellent, this is a film where depth matters and it didn't disappoint on that front - I didn't feel sick or anything but admit that one very brief shot gave me a bit of vertigo.

I could have done with some more pop-out (as always), but this was a very natural-looking conversion nonetheless, significantly enhancing the viewing experience, I'd probably say it impressed me as much as San Andreas in that respect.

Today I watched Goosebumps which unfortunately wasn't quite as impressive, though I have to say I think Danny Elfman's score is his best in ages.

The film is slow to get going and so is the 3D. There's nothing notable about it initially - zero pop out and a fairly shallow depth, like a shoe box turned on its side. If the whole film had stayed like that the 3D conversion would have been a really pointless exercise. But when the monsters are let loose the 3D loosens up a bit, with some mild pop outs (my favourite being gnomes in the dishwasher) and nicely layered shots showing more depth generally, occasionally pulling scenery out in front of the screen. Smoke and particle effects also always look good in 3D and that's no exception here.

I really wish the 3D had been stronger but I suppose they didn't want to scare the kids with it - the most extreme it gets is a werewolf in your face but apart from that one strong but brief moment the 3D stays very conservative, a real missed opportunity given the subject matter of the film. I can see how for some people there won't be much benefit at all to watching the film in 3D, but I'd seen it in 2D before and it was much better in 3D.

This grows on me a little more each time I watch it, currently watching Sarah Conner chronicles but find Lena Headey's constant smile off putting, she didn't smile once in Dredd, which is another movie I love to see a sequel of.

Default Dinosaurs: Giants of Patagonia 3D

I bought my first 3D TV a few days ago, and last night watched Dinosaurs: Giants of Patagonia 3D.

Fantastic 3D. Don't just take my word for it, read the review at Blu-ray.com. Play it loud to take advantage of its booming, thundering audio. At $7.99, it's a must have. I wish it was longer, but if you only have 41 minutes to watch a 3D, it's a great choice.

Thanks, tommygunz. I am trying to get a hold of Shark Night 3D as I have to import it. If I'm not mistaken, the OZ version is region free.

Everest. Thought is was great in all aesthetic and technical departments. Perfect for 3D, well-cast, skillfully directed, excellent production values.

I love this film so much but it always ends up making me think of the dog Bonnie we lost a year before the film came out.

The film used 3D very well.

Just watched Pan in 3D

Wow. Just wow. A+ 3D entertainment. Depth, layering, pop-out - this has it all. I initially put it on just to check it out and ended up watching the whole thing. Characters, scenery and pointy objects are constantly positioned out of the screen, enhancing the depth behind them. A few projectiles even come right at ya. It's easily one of the strongest - and best - conversions I've seen.

Hear hear. I think it's my favourite 3D presentation from last year, just stunning.
