Even when the #3 team has a harder strength of schedule and more wins against ranked teams?

June Jones did a terrific job at both Hawaii and SMU. They can cry all they want but I'll bet he improves Arizona St. as well.

With the additional 10 (50 in total) charges against him Jerry Sandusky's bail was raised from $100k to $250k. Right now he's supposedly still in jail but expected to come up with the higher bail amount to get released. I've seen nonviolent drug offenders get higher bail or no bail at all and here we have a serial pedophile who is obviously an extreme danger to the public and he gets $250k bail. This is getting stupid. There's no reason whatsoever he should be allowed out of prison awaiting trial for 50 sexual crime charges on a minor.

No kidding. Atleast it is a secured bond this time. Tte first time he only had to pay bail if he skipped a hearing. Now he has to pay more just to go home....and he aint going home tonight.....thank god

What? I had no idea about that. I don't know Pennsylvania law but here in Florida there are very strict laws on sex predators living near schools. Then again if he were anywhere in the southeast he'd be locked up with no bail anyway. At first I thought his rather low bail given the charges was because of one bad judge with links to The Second Mile charity. But this is a different judge and he still gets to bail out.

Don't call it happy valley for nothing

If they're already at 50 I wonder how many people he did that stuff too that look at the news and say well their at 50 don't need me.

Since this has probably been going on since the 70's, I'd bet its closer to 150 then it is to being only 60 people.

Losing close at home doesn't mean you definitively are the #2 team in the nation either. Which is the attitude most BCS apologists are taking. The number of times we've heard "Alabama is clearly the #2 team" is appalling. I think these people need to look up the definition of "clearly".

Alabama may be the second best team in the nation. But since we don't know that, and they already had their shot, they should never have been voted a rematch.

The only thing clear to me is that there is clearly a bias for SEC teams. In the other thread, you referred to the Big 4 + 2, but I'm not so sure it isn't the Big 1 + 5.

That said, I believe I read that the human voter component of the BCS had Alabama ranked above OSU and that the computers had it vice-versa, so is it really all that fair to blame the BCS formula for the rematch scenario?

Regardless, you're absolutely right when you say that "Alabama may be the second best team in the nation but we don't know." Which is why I wish we took the top four teams (LSU/Stanford and Alabama/OSU) and pitted them against one another in semifinal matchups.

Hell, you can still spread the 30something bowl games in the two weeks around the semifinal/national championship games, and you can even call the semifinal games the Orange/Sugar Bowls and the championship game the Rose Bowl if you want to. Idgaf what you call it; I just want to see a true national champion.

At least they're deserving of any kind of bias , Unlike ahem the big 10 a few years ago.

I keep hearing/seeing people say this. Every rational college football fan wants the same thing.

Until then, we're stuck with what we have now. Everyone is "at fault" for putting Alabama in the game -- the BCS, the computers, the human voters, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Stanford, Boise State, etc.

I think Alabama is a better team than LSU, frankly, and will end up winning. Can't wait to see the cries then.

Arizona State pulled their offer from June Jones. A source said the offer was pulled because the "it took too long" and the school president was moving on, which is a complete joke because all that was left to complete was a few minor details. From the sounds of it the school gave in to negative reactions to the hiring from fans and boosters.

I don't know who ASU is going to get now but if I was an up-and-coming coach I wouldn't consider the school due to the way they treated Jones. The names ESPN.com's Rumor Mill lists as potential candidates include Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, Tennessee defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox, Oregon offensive coordinator Mark Helfich, Bears offensives coordinator Mike Martz, Eastern Michigan head coach Ron English, and current Arizona State offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone. If ASU fans reacted poorly to June Jones, an accomplished coach who has coached in a BCS game, I don't know how they'll react to any of those candidates whose resumes don't compare to Jones.

Agreed. They're going to wish they got Jones (even though I'm sure he was not the first ... or second or third ... choice).

I for one hope that Alabama wins 9-6 in OT. Just to watch the posturing of the Sports Analysts after the game about how the BCS is the best system ever.

My dad said he thinks if Alabama beats LSU in the rematch, that they should be considered split national champions for 2011...

Honestly I think picking the top eight teams for a playoff (spanning three weekends of play... interspersing bowl games in the weeks in between perhaps) would be the best option... after all, high school football playoff brackets last like five weeks, and there are three rounds to the NFL playoffs. But the "plus one" playoff among the top four teams seems to be attracting the most attention at the moment. A week or two ago, I would've picked undefeated Houston instead of Stanford for the #4-seed, though.

Are there really any analysts (besides ESPN people, who are obviously biased) that thinkt he BCS is even a good system? Seems like everything I read thrashes the ridiculous, disfunctional system.

Is Maryland going to have enough players to field a team next year? I saw they've already had 6 players announce they're transferring since the end of the season.

And therein lies the fundamental problem: you're always going to have to choose some teams over others, and there'll be an outcry from fans of teams that "should have" or "deserved to" make it and didn't.

I guess one way to avoid that is to keep the BCS standings and use the top 4 BCS-ranked teams in the playoffs.

Which is why I said I liked the top eight team playoff instead. If a team doesn't finish in the top eight of the human polls/whatever, then they shouldn't deserve a title shot. But eight allows a good mix of at-large teams and conference champs and doesn't stretch on for too many games (three rounds).

Agreed. I foresee trying a 4-team playoff, and when that becomes financially successful but ultimately "unfair" for one reason or another, they'll expand to 8.

Babysteps with these idiots, apparently.
