It's possible that both the Ant-Man and Mission Impossible films will outperform Fant4stic this weekend. Tom Cruise hanging off of a plane has been a staple of the fox and FX networks and that viral video has been shared among everyone I know on facebook. Ant-Man is an official Marvel film and a crowd pleaser. Then you have Amy's film Trainwreck which I actually enjoyed alot despite my disdain for Schumer's humor.

Heck, I can't say that Fant4stic will do better next week because I have higher hopes for UNCLE and that film looks like it will be an entertaining but hot mess nevertheless. At least that film has Henry "Superman" Cavill attached to bring in audiences and the over 50 crowd that grew up with the show to make up the audience.

Fant4stic has alienated pretty much everyone from seeing this, based on the lack of media promotion, the bastardization of the material and the on set and post-production scandals. If this film does any good numbers it will have to be overseas. Otherwise this is nothing more than a bargining chip for Marvel to give up more control of X-Men in exchange for characters they desperately crave, like Galactus, Silver Surfer and the Skrulls.

Same here. A lot of people have been bemoaning Chronicle 2 but I was actually looking forward to it and thought the early Cronenberg talk sounded great.

And who knows, enough of that may have survived. It's not sounding like it but time will tell.

Plus do children even know or care either. Usually with something like this you can say, hey it sucks but we can get some dumb kids to drag their parents to see it (like Wolverine Origins) because the material is popular with the kiddies. The FF cartoons have never been successful (the 90's one lasted a couple of seasons but isn't fondly remembered like any of the other 90's Marvel cartoons), and the comic is gone and won't be coming back after the Marvel Secret Wars event currently going on.

Hate to ruin the party guys but F4 will win the weekend. This will probably have a $30M weekend and have a 2.5x multiplier at most...so $70M total domestic (awful). It will probably get $175M or so overseas (just as awful).

I have to be out the house tomorrow anyway, and I thought the first trailer was decent (well, not terrible - enough to get me intrigued), so I'll check this out. Sure, I might hate it. My money probably would be better spent on watching Rogue Nation again. But I'm intrigued to see just how bad this is.
Hey; it can't be any worse than Rise of the Silver Surfer, can it? (I may return to eat those words tomorrow)

The comic was cancelled because of the FF embargo Marvel put on Fox. From now until Marvel gets the rights back there will be no more FF merchandise. Fox cant make their own toys or merchandise without Marvel approval and Marvel is dead set on keeping FF buried as a way to protect the brand. Once it's revealed that Marvel gets the rights back there will be a new Fantastic Four #1 on shelves.

Seeing those inevitable "See the #1 movie in the country!" commercial spots are going to be quite humorous.

Should they use..."plodding, stillborn and joyless" or
"awkward staging, cut-rate effects, and stilted dialogue" ? tough choice!

With Fox negotiating with Marvel for an X-Men TV Series, wonder what Marvel will ask in return? Maybe the rights for FF, or if not, can use Doom, Galactus, Annihilus, Surfer, Skrulls?

I don't cast a vote unless I see a movie, ever. Not here, not imdb, not anywhere.

Last time Marvel asked for Galactus, Surfer and The Watcher for a full Galactus epic using the other characters instead of the FF.

This time they may bargain tougher.

At this rate if Fox and Marvel are in negotiations I wonder how much money or points Fox is going to have to give up on the TV show to make Marvel even consider taking the FF off of their hands. And thats on top of what they will have to give up to make the x-men TV show.

Like the guy above mentioned, Mavel wants the villains more than the FF at this point----Skrulls, Kang, Annihilus, Galactus.

Heck if they think the FF are too damaged to repair--they may want Dr Doom as villain for another non FF movie. that would be sad.

Oh I agree its just with this what seems to be disaster coming, Marvel is in a much stronger position to bargin and FOX may be looking for the Public relations points of "Giving" the Fantastic Four properties back to Marvel and Marvel could even try to play hardball and ask FOX to pay them to take the now Toxic stuff off of their hands.

Im always annoyed by such comments.

Its not because it isn't out yet in the U.S. that the movie isnt "out yet"
