What I'm seeing is no, and they might need a ton of walk ons (so much for rebuilding)... S* I might go try out . They lost their #1 recruit too (while hes bad for other teams #1 here)

I mean we've still got a good school so I'm sure they'll find kids to take scholarships, but that won't turn around anything.

I have no idea why, but it's as big a yearly tradition as the BCS bashing is prior to that game.

I don't either as espn is so big and so important you'd think they wouldn't pander the way they do.

The worst part I've heard recently is he took kids to his basement and they would call to his wife for help which may mean she knew everything. If that's the case they need to send her to prison as well for aiding and abetting.

I don't know who ASU is going to get now but if I was an up-and-coming coach I wouldn't consider the school due to the way they treated Jones. The names ESPN.com's Rumor Mill lists as potential candidates include Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, Tennessee defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox, Oregon offensive coordinator Mark Helfich, Bears offensives coordinator Mike Martz, Eastern Michigan head coach Ron English, and current Arizona State offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone. If ASU fans reacted poorly to June Jones, an accomplished coach who has coached in a BCS game, I don't know how they'll react to any of those candidates whose resumes don't compare to Jones.
According to internet scuttlebutt, it looks like Jones' agent, Leigh Steinberg, screwed this one up. Apparently the deal was done and SMU called ASU to discuss terms of the $2 million dollar buyout. Steinberg never mentioned the buyout to ASU, and ASU said no deal.

That said, I believe I read that the human voter component of the BCS had Alabama ranked above OSU and that the computers had it vice-versa, so is it really all that fair to blame the BCS formula for the rematch scenario?

Regardless, you're absolutely right when you say that "Alabama may be the second best team in the nation but we don't know." Which is why I wish we took the top four teams (LSU/Stanford and Alabama/OSU) and pitted them against one another in semifinal matchups.

Hell, you can still spread the 30something bowl games in the two weeks around the semifinal/national championship games, and you can even call the semifinal games the Orange/Sugar Bowls and the championship game the Rose Bowl if you want to. Idgaf what you call it; I just want to see a true national champion.
+1

These Downfall parodies never get old for me:

Until then, we're stuck with what we have now. Everyone is "at fault" for putting Alabama in the game -- the BCS, the computers, the human voters, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Stanford, Boise State, etc.

I think Alabama is a better team than LSU, frankly, and will end up winning. Can't wait to see the cries then.
I'm almost positive the computers actually did get it right and had OK St. #2. It's the human voters that gave the spot to Alabama. What genius thought it was a good idea to let COACHES vote in a poll to determine the rankings anyway?

The BCS system has a large network of paid apologists. I hear them all the time on radio and TV talkiing about how amazing the bowl system is and how it makes the regular season mean something, yadda yadda... Most of them work for the individual bowls like the Rose, Fiesta, Sugar bowl, etc. Most of these bowls have large staffs of people doing very little actual work and making high 6 figures to 7 figures. The excess/corruption that goes on with these bowl committees it quite astounding.

Yeah, I've never understood how the coaches poll is a component of the BCS. Coaches do not watch games. They only see their own games and tape of future opponents. How many Oklahoma State games do you think Nick Saban watched? I'm guessing none, but that didn't stop Saban from voting OSU 4th. There is a clear conflict of interest in letting coaches vote but nobody wants to mess with the status quo.

Even worse is often times the head coach just delegates his vote to some other unknown person working under him. We don't even know whose casting the ballot in many cases.

I believe the AP used to count towards the BCS but withdrew participation because they wanted to make a statement against the current system in favor of a playoff. Since the AP withdrew the Harris Poll took it's place. How that poll is determined I have no idea. The AP has always been the most respected major poll, with the Coaches poll being the worst.

In a fairly surprising move Kansas has hired Charlie Weis as their new coach. Weis was 35-27 as Notre Dame's coach, spent the 2010 season as the Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator, and spent the past season as Florida's offensive coordinator.

I don't know how I feel about this hire. I don't think he was a very good coach at Notre Dame, although he is a very good man. But maybe he can at least make Kansas competitive in the Big XII. I bet Florida is pissed though.

Does Kansas have a fetish for obese head coaches or something?

That move surprises the hell out of me, but I can't blame Weis at all for taking it.

I've found a reason to be thankful for the NBA lockout. Since there's no NBA games tonight the Northern Iowa-Montana playoff game is on ESPN instead of ESPN2.

For those of you who may be confused a playoff is something where multiple teams (in this case 20) get a chance to play for the national title rather than using a mathematical formula so only 2 teams get a chance at the title. I know, it's a crazy idea.

After letting go of head coach Rick Neuheisel and attempting to hire several big names, UCLA has finally found a head coach.

According to the LA Times, former Seattle Seahawks and Atlanta Falcons head coach Jim L. Mora will be named to the position on Saturday. The Bruins had attempted to hire Boise State's Chris Petersen, Houston's Kevin Sumlin and Washington's Steve Sarkisian before Mora took the job. This will be the first time the Bruins have hired a head coach who has not been an assistant coach or player at the school since 1949.

Mora has been out of coaching since 2009 after being let go by the Seahawks. He has been in the NFL since 1985, including stops in San Diego, New Orleans, San Francisco and Atlanta. In four seasons as a head coach, Mora compiled a 31-33 overall record and reached the NFC championship game in 2004 before losing to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Mora was serving as an analyst for the NFL Network the past two years before being hired by UCLA. Better known as Jim Mora Jr., he lived in Los Angeles when his father, Jim Sr., coached at the school in 1974. The 50-year-old also played defensive back at Washington in the early 1980's.

The Bruins went 6-7 on the season under Neuheisel, losing 50-0 to crosstown rival USC and most recently to Oregon in the first ever Pac-12 Championship game last week.

UCLA will play in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl on December 31 with offensive coordinator Mike Johnson serving as interim head coach.
If the Arizona State boosters pressured their school to back out on June Jones, I can't imagine the UCLA boosters being pleased with Jim Mora, Jr. Although there aren't very many other options available at this point. Kevin Sumlin looks to either want to stay at Houston longterm, or he already has the Texas A&M job in the bag.

Since when did Arizona St. turn into a dumping ground for Atlanta Falcons-flameouts? At least the family tie makes sense for Jim Mora. I didn't think much of him when he was coach here in ATL, but maybe the college campus atmosphere would suit him better.
