First of all I would like to say thanks to all of you who have helped me a few days back! So all day I have been wrecking my brain trying to decide if I should sell or keeps my RC-30s. My question is should I stick with the 30s and get a new amplifier?(which I might add is a whole new world of home theater for me) Or should I sell my 30s and up for the 70s putting a amplifier on the back burners for a while. The 70s, im sure, wont be around much longer so its tempting, but will it really change my sound having already capable a2-300s at work? Any help/guidance would surely help. Also any ideas on a price I should put the RC-30s at if I do decide to sell them? As always thank you!

I would say that the RC70s will add a little bit of mid-range and bass Im guessing, however I think you would benefit more from a receiver with higher current draw and more powerful amp section. That will help drive those drivers with more authority.

BY amp, Im assuming you mean and external amp?? You cannot add an external amp to that receiver, it doesn't have the required pre-outs for an extenal amp.

What is your budget?????

Yea that seems logical. Oh and Im not sure what im looking for really but looking back at old threads I see alot of people guiding me towards a new amp. In terms of looking for an amp is an amp receiver combo the way to go or something different? What are the benefits other than the obvious add in output power. Im not really on a budget really im just looking for what would serve me best. If i had to put a number down I would say $1000. but its flexible im not necessarily saying i have to spend that much. Anyway, thanks!

you could get this receiver for $400
http://www.accessories4less.com/make...eceiver/1.html

and 2 of these for $674
http://www.outlawaudio.com/products/2200.html

that will drive the mains really well, give you more power for the Surrounds and Center, 3D if you want, better audyssey

If you don't care about 3D, get this one, its a clone of the 807, it has a larger power supply then the 708 and that should help the center and surrounds.
http://www.accessories4less.com/make...specifications

If you don't want to worry about connecting an amp and just want a receiver, make way for this beast. its 18"s deep, but draws a lot of power when called on, it has tons of headroom for big movie scenes.

here is another thing to think about, you are driving 7 speakers with the Onkyo 607. you are probably giving them about 50 watts of power per speaker, adding the external amps reduces the power that the receiver has to come up with, relieving the receiver of the strain to power those extra channels. The onkyo 708 has a bigger power supply and a better amp section to call on to handle the heavier passages in movies. The Onkyo 180 has an even bigger Power Supply and amp section to provide more power. Same then will go for the 3008.

the outlaw amps will lower the noise floor, take strain off of the receiver, drive more power into the main L/R speakers. The nice thing about the monos is that they are small and stackable, and you could easily add another one for the Center channel when youre ready.

Wow! well the RC180 would be where I would go most likely. Adding the mono's as well. I think that would be the best route for me. Too bad they wouldnt be powering the RC-70s! haha if only. Well you've given me tons to think about so we will see. Thanks!

All those Energy CB/CF speakers i bought with the stackable promos at Vanns comes in tomorrow. Should be a nice upgrade to my parents HT. Once i get the RC70's for myself my HT will be complete as well.

For those who didn't believe the prices here is a copy of the order. I removed my order number and email address for obvious reasons. I wish more people could have picked up Energy speakers at those prices.

I tried it but, nothing happened. Congrats on the great deal. I paid $1100 for 2 CF50's and a CC10 last December. I wanted to get the CF70's through this deal and use my CF50's for the rears. Oh well, there's always black friday.

Vanns has stackable coupons for some Energy speakers now.

If you combine the "energy" and "amexaudio" promo you get the CR-10 pair for $104/pair, CC-5 for $60, CC-10 for $130, CF-70s for $150/each, RC-10 for $240/pair, CB-10 for $100/pair, CB-20 for $150/pair, V-mini for $110/each!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone wanting these prices pull trigger quick. I didn't find this deal myself but it's BY FAR the best prices i've ever seen on these from an authorized retailer.

Go here to enter both promos
http://www.vanns.com/shop/promo

Don't know how long they will work so hurry up!

Yes, congrats again on the new speakers, what an awesome deal.

That will teach me to be sleeping at 5 am when you originally posted the deal!

For better or worse, if I had caught it in time, I would probably be done with all my speaker shopping now except for the subs.

I just heard about someone calling Vanns, mentioning about the stackable promotions and the prices that resulted and they honored selling a pair of RC10's for $240.

For those who missed this you may be able to still get those prices if you call them directly. I figure if you feel bad that you missed it give them a call and see what happens. What's the worst they say, No...well at least you tried.

I'll have full setups of connoisseurs and RC's now. I'm curious to see exactly how much better the RC's are to my ears. Expect a rather long post from me in the not too distant future.

Default Bummer

Got my order last night and hooked everything up to see what my 1st impressions would be. As it turns out one of the tweeters in my CB20's is not working. I was hoping it was an unplugged or loose wire. I opened it up to see what i could find.

The tweeter driver isn't anywhere near as big as i thought it would be.

https://www.blu-ray.com/community/ga...&folderid=6128

Unfortunately I couldn't see anything obvious. I called Vanns and will be arranging a return.

Bummed right now.

I finally set-up the CR10's today. So far I've only testing them with Top Gun and they sound great. During the entire intro sequence of the movie the sound really sounded great with sounds coming from everywhere. I plan on putting on some more modern stuff to test with as well, but Top Gun sounded great with the full compliment of 2 CF-70s, CC10, and 2 CR10s. Now just need that sub.

Great news Clippins, congrats on your nearly complete setup. I've re-watched nearly all my movie collection since I bought the new receiver and speakers, and it's almost like watching them for the first time.
I've been thinking about getting Top Gun. I've never owned the movie in any format, but after watching it in the theater when it first came out, a few weeks later I was in the Navy and going through basic training in Great Lakes, Ill. I think the Navy must have secretly used this movie as a recruiting tool.

Clippins,

Glad to hear that you really like the CR-10s, Im sure your endevor will help many others with their purchase of the same speakers for surrounds.

Mike, you need to buy the Top Gun blu. Its a great audio mix, do yourself a favor and get that new sub first tho, there is some good bass there too.

Hey there Steve, yes I heard the audio in Top Gun is great and worth the purchase based on the audio alone. I do find the movie entertaining though, and it brings me back everytime I see it on TV. I never felt the desire to purchase it before, but on blu it's hard to resist.

Thank you. I watched The Bourne Indentity today with the CR-10s and they still sound real nice. They really help to fill up the room and add a lot to the audio experience. With what I have, things are sounding real nice. I can only imagine what adding a sub will do to the mix.
