It wasn't just The Goonies, it was part of a whole wave of kids movies with movie money that were supposed to be for Pan (which was postponed). Universal actually did the same thing recently, they put out a wave of movie money titles that included the old release of Apollo 13, despite the 20th Anniversary edition coming out like a week or so after. These aren't new versions, they're just the old ones with movie money stickers added. They're chosen because they're thought to be the most relevant titles to promote the upcoming theatrical film.

I'll hang on to the 25th anniversary I ordered for about a month....if nothing is mentioned about the 30th I'll just keep it. Hope to hear something official soon.

Even if they do release a "Diamond Luxe" 30th anniversary edition of The Goonies, chances of a new transfer are practically nil...they'll probably just add a featurette with new interviews with the cast and that's it.

Any hope for a 4K UHD release yet? This is one I'll triple dip on. I loved this 25th Anniversay edition but it takes up a LOT of shelf space and I guess they are a dime-a-dozen because they sell regularly for a 1/3 of what I paid for it new! My shelf space is limited and therefore valuable so I don't want it wasted.

I'd love to replace this chunky thing with a LIMITED edition 4K release similar to ET or a steelbook with a Sloth super-deep Lenti slip!

I have to agree, a 4k transfer would be day 1.

I sold mine. Just too big. Ended up going with the single Blu-ray release. But I'd take a 4K release in a second.

I don't know about a new blu-ray but I think we will see a 4K UHD disc next year as it is celebrating its 35th anniversary and a 4K restoration was done within the last year or so and has been shown in theaters.

I kinda figured it was pre-recorded before it started, given that there were cuts during Josh's intro, but hey, it was cool of them to do this at all. I like how they slowly brought more and more members of the cast and crew in. Speilberg chiming in was a nice surprise, and Richard Donner not knowing how to use the camera made me chuckle.
