It's not a question of 'being nice'. Don't know about you, but it was a lot of work to get these -- not to mention the fact that I have personally inspected mine. A vast majority of shelves were rejected because collectors here would deem them non-collectible.
Some people in another thread are discussing paint chips on an AVATAR SteelBook, so it takes time to properly inspect them. IMO, there is no such thing as 'mint'. Almost every SteelBook you inspect, you will find *some* kind of flaw in them if you inspect it deep enough. "Being nice" would mean actually having a relationship with the seller and caring about more than just the bottom line. |

I'd rather trade my spare copy for some Canadian-Exclusive slips that I'm trying to acquire. Depending on which ones you have, the amount of them I'd like in return varies. If anyone is interested, here's my Canadian Slipcover wants list:
All Good Things Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans Cop Out Drive Drive (Future Shop Exclusive) Happy Feet Hostage Ides of March, The I’m Not There Kill Bill, Volume 1 (Lenticular) Law Abiding Citizen Mist, The (Lenticular) Pan's Labyrinth (Lenticular) Punisher, The (Lenticular) Queen, The (Awards Edition) Red Cliff She’s All That Spy Kids Spy Kids 3 Valentine's Day Wedding Singer, The Zack & Miri Make A Porno |

#1. The steelbooks are gonna get scratched all to hell by soft foam padding? Give me a break! #2. Anyone who actually takes the shrinkwrap off of the steelbooks will find out just how easily they actually come out. #3. Anyone keeping the shrinkwrap on the steelbooks will be keeping them in the shelf anyways, so they won't be coming out very often. ![]() Unless you are just justifying to yourself for not going the extra distance to get your hands on one, your fears are completely illogical. valid statement. who knows what the owners are going to do with their own steelbook. Maybe some owner might like to show off to all their 100s of friends that come over by sliding them back and forth?
![]() Anyhow, this video shows what to expect in removing them from the case. I saw it on another forum...it's there if you want to see how he removes them. Last edited by crystal_sun; 02-01-2012 at 11:35 PM. |

The inside of the shelf is made completely of soft foam insulation. Yes, it is not meant to hold the SteelBooks with the backing paper and the shrinkwrap on.
If it were, it would be too loose for the bare SteelBook. You obviously haven't seen one in real life. If you had, you wouldn't be worried about scratching the SteelBook. Did you know that the shelf itself was made by Scanavo? I think they have a SteelBook or two lying around to test the shelf out on. ![]() |

Well, I have no way to get my hands on one with the nearest Futureshop being a 2 hour drive and last I heard they had none anyway. If I could get there and they had extras I'd be happy to grab some and share them with others. So to be clear what I meant by "being nice" was exactly that, helping someone out for the sake of being helpful, not gouging somebody who can't do it for themselves. Exactly what's wrong with the world today. If I counted up the cost of items and postage that I've sent to "screen names" around the world through the forums I frequent, you probably wouldn't believe it. I don't do it for anything in return, I do it because it feels good to help someone out when you can. |

I volunteer with food banks, underprivileged kids, and charity fund raising. However, I don't think anyone here *needs* an HP shelf. They just want one. And like I said, yes. If these shelves were available in perfect condition at every Mac's convenience store for $10, then that is what I would charge. If you want a pack of Smarties or Coffee Crisp (not available in the US, mind you), I will sell it to you at cost + shipping. However, these are not Smarties or Coffee Crisps. You proved the fact yourself that these are very difficult to get, and just because I have one, it doesn't mean that my time is worth nothing. It is not price gouging, and even if it is, the market will correct itself because no one will buy it if I list it for $100 or more. If you are feeling so charitable, I can sell you mine for $40 and you can re-sell it here for $10. ![]() |

Well I got one. Finally.. Made the 4 hour trek to futureshop today and I looked around for them. None to be seen, so I asked an employee and he said "Oh yeah I've got a bunch out back, not sure what's up with them.." He grabbed one and punched in the item number and it popped up at $10.
Now I guess I should buy the Steels to go in it. But for now I'm gonna search for custom covers for my Viva's. They fit a little loose but not bad.. |
