My dream lenticular slipcovers would be the Genie coming out of the lamp. Or Jafar turning into the snake. Or the cave of wonders opening. *sigh*

Vudu now has the digital version available to preorder.

http://www.vudu.com/movies/Movies_mo...!content/39835

Before the BD preorders were taken down, it was reported that there would be a early digital release on September 29 prior to the BD release date of October 13.

Collectible lenticular slips... don't give the retailers any ideas.

That's because Best Buy USA also had one for Sleeping Beauty. It's possible Aladdin could get one, given that was also Best Buy's exclusive for Big Hero 6.

The cover art is okay but they could do much better.

Do you guys think the transfer will be the same one as the one on the European Edition or will Disney make a new transfer? Personally I hope they will make a new transfer as the one on the European Releases have some small issues. Now, I'm not an expert on the subject, but if you zoom in on this Screencapture here: (Warning: Huge Picture)

http://images6.fanpop.com/image/phot...-5739-3102.png

you can see some faint, I don't know what to call it... But almost faint lines around Jasmine's eyes. I think someone once called it Edge Enhancement? But if you compare that Screencapture to this one from The Little Mermaid here:

http://images6.fanpop.com/image/phot...-5760-3240.png

you will see that the Mermaid one is flawless. So I hope they do make a new transfer. They don't need to make color changes, but just to fix that Edge Enhancement thingy. But knowing Disney, they probably won't. :P But here's hoping.

Now all that aside, I can't wait for this (and hopefully the sequels) to be released on Blu-ray finally! I already own the European Version, but I'm so gonna get the US Version as well. I also got the Peter Pan US Diamond Edition and the Jungle Book US Diamond Edition as well, because of the extras that the European Releases didn't have sadly.

Well, we know that the audio mix will be different (7.1 instead of 5.1). It's possible the transfer may be different, as the aspect ratio of the European transfer is different than the typical Aspect ratio Disney animated releases have on BD.

That's true. I didn't even think about that, but you're right. So there might still be hope for a better transfer. I thought about it, like you said... They're making a new 7.1 Audio Mix, so hopefully that means a new transfer as well.

Am I looking at the wrong images? Those two "screen caps" you linked are NOT representative of the way either of those films' Blu-rays look, even the VHSs are better quality.

Here are screen caps from the UK release of Aladdin:
[Show spoiler]

This transfer was originally made for the DVD release of the film (same as most, if not all, of the Platinum/Diamond Edition releases) and will be the same transfer we get here in North America. That said, there may be small improvements based on codec, bitrate, file size etc... But if you thought that image of The Little Mermaid looked flawless, you will be blown away by the way that Aladdin looks when it arrives.

Why can't we pre-order anymore? Has the release been cancelled? Is there a contractual dispute between Disney and Robin Williams' family?

My order is still in place, so maybe Amazon just got more orders than they expected? And they're not opening it up until they know they can get more stock.

That's just my guess lol.

By the time this launches everyone will be seeing it as a huge wasted opportunity due to UHD. It would be nice if Disney put out a 4K version of the film (if they can) and not wait another 7 years to do so.

I disagree. Lots of people (including me) are in no hurry to start over with UHD. DVD's are still relevant and regular Blurays will be for a long time too.

I also kinda enjoy that they actually managed to finish off the release of one line (Diamond) without blurring the lines with another (when they started blu-rays towards the end of the Platinum line's run).

I won't start over with UHD right away either. But between buying a BD now and waiting for 7 years for the UHD counterpart or buying a UHD BD + Bd combo and future-proofing my collection, I definitely choose the later.

Especially if we consider the possible state in which psychical releases will be in 7 years.
