The bluray.com review seemed very positive

Picked this up yesterday at Wal-Mart because so many people found this at theirs. Can't wait to watch this!

The UHD is currently the definitive version of this movie, its over all an excellent transfer!

Wont dig too much into the technical details since that already has been covered by fellow owners here, but you will encounter some soft scenes as well as some that were sharpened in post processing (Blue alien opera scene). That being said, the flaws in the transfer do not deter from the majority of the film where theres a fluidity to the image now with healthy film grain that gives a more authentic cinematic feel to it. The part where Leeloo jumped off the balcony, I gasped at how crispy, colorful, and smooth it flowed.

You can make out newer details in clothing/prop objects, flesh tones are more accurate compared to prior releases, and the HDR was subtle and not intrusive instead it helped with detail in the darker scenes.

Re experiencing this movie again in UHD was a treat, I am sure Luc Besson wanted us to see it this way from day one in our homes. 20 years later and we got the definitive version!

While it is certainly the best version to date there is a fair amount of edge enhancement. Specular highlights are well done and detail is definitely an uptick from the standard blu-ray. A good upgrade for those who like the film, but in no way a reference transfer. I do love the steel book version of the case. All uhd releases should have a premium packaging like this.

The regular 4K/BD release as of now is listed as buy from marketplace sellers on Amazon. I have no idea why Amazon is not stocking this any longer.

Picked my copy up from Target. Currently I can't watch the UHD since I don't have a UHD Player, but that Dolby Atmos track on the standard blu-ray is insane. I am greatly impressed with what they did. Definitely happy with the purchase.

Are people certain this edge enhancement is not from the camera? The new scan could be bringing out these types of problems with the lenses. Not saying this is the truth, but there was a lot of BS about Days of Heaven Criterion and most of that was strictly from the way they were shooting the film. There have been other cases where edge enhancement is called out and it was the camera as well.

I have a hard time understanding how people can verify what is and what is not a lens effect when it is subtle. Is it not subtle in this?

Can someone post pics to try and verify if this is actual edge enhancement. Why would Sony of all studios use edge enhancement when they rarely if ever have on any other UHD or 4K transfer?

https://www.caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a...&l=1&i=12&go=1

Is this what you guys are talking about with edge enhancement? How can you verify this is actually EE? It's in every single master.

https://www.caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a...&l=1&i=12&go=1

Literally, I am not sure if this is actual edge enhancement. Could be due to effects. It's in every single version of this film.

It's just more subtle in the Fox because the Fox is a terrible transfer, but you can definitely see the same lines.

Also, that poster that said the Fox transfer is the best one is hilarious. The transfer is garbage. People are just want to be picky and obscure. The Fox transfer is straight up terrible with awful detail and grain compared to the UHD.

In the French version as well.

All I know is we watched this on our Sony Z9D last night, and it was glorious.
Never saw a grainy issue, unlike some other recent regular bd releases from the 80's.
Also noticed grain on Unforgiven 4K, just minor in a few places. Not a grain hater, just unhappy when it tries to crawl on the screen.

I redeemed my copy from Sony's website, and it redeemed the UHD in my UV locker, but Vudu only shows as HDX. Whenever Vudu updates, it should automatically update.

Well I guess it wouldn't hurt to try. I had already redeemed the recent remastered blu-ray UV copy.

I hope Best Buy didn't screw up the code for the Steelbook like they did with Labyrinth.

I already had a UV copy I purchased a while back, and in my UV account, it now has a "2" above The Fifth Element. It shows the purchase through VUDU as SD and HDX, and then it shows the redemption through Sony as SD, HDX, and UHD.

Interesting. My redeem was through the Sony website, but I always use VUDU for UV titles.

ps: Looks like this 4k version is only available for the Ultra 4k app on select Sony Brivia TV's. So not available for my LG OLED or my android devices.

I doubt this is OOP but still not available on Amazon, only from marketplace sellers.
