I will admit though, Mr. Day Job brings up a good point. Maybe some of us SHOULD be the people mastering these discs. There would certainly be far less errors and replacement programs. It’d likely save these companies a penny or two in the process.

Hell, Second Sight and Kino have even recruited some of us forum members for some of their biggest releases and taken their advice into account. Maybe they should be doing that more often.

Hey Matt could you give me the timestamps where you saw some flickering/brightness fluctuations? I'd like to check it out later on my setup. I have the 820 and a90j. Have you checked your disc for any imperfections btw? There's a tiny scratch on mine but I didn't seem to have any issues with playback. Just a little more noise from the player than usual.

The comparison was created on 24 August, so a good deal before the actual disc came out. Ideally they'd create them when a new version comes out to show the strengths and weaknesses of the new disc(s), but lately they've been making new comparisons before release date.

BTW I'm not saying HDR10 is horrible if done right , I'm watching Shang-Chi 4K in HDR10 but I do think it would look better with a proper Dolby Vision pass .
And please don't take my banter with y'all personally, sometimes my humor doesn't translate well on post .
My take is most of the releases on 4K people have had problems with I haven't cause of my setup.
Sorry some of you have but I am a diehard fan of DV .
Peace out ... B

Hoping to get an answer on the audio situation soon. My Target order for it got delayed and I need to approve the delay now. I've got a DV-capable display, so the compression and chroma issues should clear up well enough for me. But if there's any other issues I need to know about, I think I'm just going to let my order lapse and get a refund instead.

I just received my copy new from a seller on eBay. Watching it now. The picture in my opinion looks AMAZING in 4K. Love all the extras they included.

Yeah but I'm not moaning about inexplicably avoiding all the major problem areas like y'all did with EFNY or Total Recall or whatever, it's that the chroma noise seems to infest samlop's caps regardless of the scene whereas yours/capsaholic's do not. I'm reminded of when the Mad Max UHD first appeared on there and we all shit a brick because of all the bizarre chroma noise, only for it to be revealed that it was a problem with the capture software. This is the opposite situation of coursh, it's the capsaholic caps that seem to be free of the issue while sam's are riddled with it.

Lastly, when a label like Kino is has jacked up their encoding at Code Red levels of ineptitude, I would think they would want to know.
You'd think so, but the very best of luck in trying to tell the Kino Insider that the compression on their UHDs appears to have gone down the gurgler

I work in a supermarket (alas, not everyone is lucky enough to be able to WFH) but I have been lucky enough to also do some paid QC work on a couple of BDs and UHDs. Had another look at Second Sight's Martin the other day, for example.

I just heard from Amazon and they informed me that I will be lucky to get this 4K by Christmas or early next year and like I said, they refuse to let me cancel because I had ordered it with something else.

I had an email stating the same so I just cancelled it. I'll get it eventually but will wait until the price lowers a bit and deepdiscount have a coupon.

i'm not technically sure what has so many folks riled up and battling over this release, but, this sites reviewer gave it a perfect 5 for both the UHD and HD Blu; is this issue/issues something they missed?

i ordered mine from BB and it's gonna be here next week. i'm easily entertained so it's either gonna look good or not. i love the movie so, i'll be happy to say whether i liked the visuals or not. i will be watching it DV since i'm hearing many folks enraged about the HDR10 visuals.

again, i'm not sure what is what issue wise, but, if it doesn't look good i'll be sure to let you guys know.

I feel like a grandma jumping into a schoolyard skirmish...

Anywho, I got mine, with a bonus buy:

Not sure I want to comment on anything else here. Take care.

PS: OH! I do own the Shout release (w/slip), and just traded away the MGM release.

I was wondering why caps-a-holic’s caps weren’t showing the chroma noise/errors; but like I said in my other post, I played it again in both my TV and PC setup (two setups with completely different hardware) and I saw the chroma errors in both.

MadVR has a bunch of tweaking you can do. The settings used in caps-a-holic could very well be different than the ones I use. I do have the tone mapping in the MadVR settings in my PC set to ‘are you nuts?’ highlight recovery and I believe it was set to 150 nits. Could be the extreme highlight recovery setting shows the deficiencies of the transfer more clearly and maybe caps-a-holic’s isn’t set to recover that much highlight detail? .

But like I said, the chroma errors show up in both setups (not to mention the bad film grain handling), so unless I’m completely crazy (which by now could very well be possible too lol), those compression errors are definitely there.

That stuff isn't just in the highlights though, it's everywhere in your caps. I don't doubt that you're seeing it look a bit junky in motion when playing it on a standalone player through the TV as even the capsaholic caps show how dodgy the sky looks in one shot, but that's separate from the gigantic blocks of chroma nastiness you're offering up. If you say you're seeing those same chroma artefacts in motion in HDR10 then fine, but I want a second opinion from a trusted capper. Hopefully Andreas has this on its way to him!

If you look very closely, the clean one is still full of that green compression blotchiness. It's just very hard to see as it's not nearly as pronounced.

I'm not sure why it's so pronounced on the other cap.

You made me paranoid so did some brief spot-checking again and I still definitely see the chroma errors (green blobs) in motion. Especially on white backgrounds. It’s not as obvious in motion because they blend together but I definitely still see them. Plus, again the bad film grain handling.

Edit: Idk… could also be some other MadVR setting making it more obvious or something… but again, I still see the chroma errors even in motion in my TV. Not as obvious as the caps but they’re still definitely there.

I will say, though, while flipping through the film trying to figure out the brightness issue, I see what y'all mean about the remote for the UB820. I must've accidentally hit that goddamn Netflix button like 6 times.

Just watched this baby, the transfer looks fantastic on my LG Oled.

There were no issues with the disc at all when viewing.
