Yeah, I hate how VUDU has Casino Royale’s longer international cut and the uncut version of Jason Goes to Hell. I prefer having the edited versions on Blu-ray. That way, they’ll never be changed. I also prefer having Blu-rays because the extra features stay the same, whereas on iTunes they keep adding more features to your movies. It’s like, “stop it, iTunes! I didn’t ask you to give me new extras!”

Sarcasm alert...

Why would you? No idea. Me? It's all about the quality.

Not for much longer. Read the link. It backs up what I saying a while back perfectly. No violence, I mean even superhero films have violence!

Apple are a huge brand and if it means people cutting out edgy adult content to get themselves a deal, I'm afraid they will do that. Sad times ahead.

I also want alternate cuts of a film where they exist and the director's preferred cut most of all, but when I buy a physical copy I know what I am getting (if I did my research) and that content can not then be changed by external forces, especially those that were not a part of the creative process. I do not want changing opinions about what is acceptable and unacceptable affecting the films I own. I do not want "sanitized" versions.

I am all for new extras, but preserving the film as it was intended to be seen takes precedence. That will always be my preference.

Yep, def stick with disc in that case. We are seeing moves towards more family friendly content and it will only be a matter of time before the likes of Netflix and HBO follow Apples lead. Especially if Apple have a success on their hands.

The opposite can be true though. Some of us like theatrical cuts. We don't have the choice for something like Almost Famous which only has the directors cut. Or 1408. (though the theatrical is/was streaming on the showtime app recently)

lmao if you really think HBO will ever kiddify itself. That's probably the most absurd thing you've ever said. You should watch The Deuce with your family.

Netflix will not either they definitely have some more hardcore movies on there.

I think it is far more likely that there will be multiple versions available for each digital redemption in the future.

theatrical version
extended/directors/unrated (if available)
family/edited version

what I am getting at. even if they offer a cleaned up/edited version of a movie, there is nothing anywhere that is remotely concrete; that a provider would only offer that version and not the original.

the sky is not falling, at least not in regards to this.

I agree. There are certainly instances where I like the theatrical cut better, the original Star Wars trilogy being the first that comes to mind. I still prize my laserdisc set for that reason. I wish that the theatrical cut and any extended cuts be made available on disc, preferably in the same package. I want to remember the film how it was when I saw it at the theater and I want to see any additional content that extended cuts offer.

I just don't want the content I purchased potentially being subjected to changes to satisfy someone else's values or agenda.

Exclusives (steelbooks, digibooks, etc.) will be the only reason soon to go to actual store for those interested in collecting them.

Why not? Things change. If there is pressure to sanitise content, it will happen. You can’t get bigger than Apple and they are panicking about upsetting people. Not a good sign.

I would agree but most online stores have exclusive packaging. Certainly HMV here in the UK.

^^This is where I am with both formats. Neither is going anywhere and both are evolving with the technology available.

Because I like know I'm going to get my slipcover, digibook, etc in great condition. We have Prime and it can be hit or miss when it comes to movies. Same with Disney Movie Club. Both of them put things in a bubble envelope instead of a box. Sorry, but if I am giving you my money for your inventory and shipping, lock it down like Fort Knox.

I forgot to mention I also got him a Vudu Spark recently so he has been watching Vudu on his TV as of late.

I'm not sure they're panicking so much as Tim Cook is substituting his viewing preferences for mine.

This is HBO. They pride themselves on having Adult content. You sound like you've never seen an HBO show in your life.

Who is pressuring a premium subscription based company?

You completely missed my point. On Blu-ray you can only get the Directors Cut. On digital providers there is the theatrical. I bought mine on VUDU as I like the shorter cut. (DVD had both versions available. Same for 1408)

Why rent stuff at the price you could buy it and they will thrown in the rental license for free with it in most cases anyway.

physical is ownership while digital is a long term rental service.

It’s a damaging stance. He is alienating a good chunk of his 18 plus male users by limiting everything to PG or worse. What’s to stop him taking that stance with all Itunes movies? Only allowing family friendly PG fluff.

I own a great many HBO titles. I am saying things change. They are being bought out by a phone company. In other words, they need to be targeting a younger audience.
