Watched RIPD 3d which I picked up over the holidays.

It had a Men in Black vibe to it for me. (Will Smith/Ryan Reynolds, Tommy Lee Jones/Jeff Bridges and aliens/living dead)

Story: 3/5
3d: 4/5

It had a lot of CGI stuff going on. It was a movie to check your brain at the door and just go with it.

I had a few laughs and wasn't too terrible. It isn't a top tier to have in your 3d collection but worth a look if you need more content.

Thanks for the RIP 3D review. Sounds like a bit of a misfire.

I recently came across a used one with slip for $17.99, but I thought was a bit much.

If it were closer to $12, I probably would pick one up.

If you ever see fold-up 3D glasses in a movie or game, I'd proceed with caution.

I'm no expert, but these pre-date modern 3D TVs and provide low-tech 3D on normal TVs.

The effect is there, but the picture is unnaturally skewed color-wise. It's pretty awful.

R.I.P.D. is often dismissed as a Men In Black rip-off and in a way it is - there are elements of Beetlejuice in there too.

The 3D doesn't get much praise but the conversion falls into my "pleasant surprise" category, I really liked it. It's mainly depth of course, but I do remember guns etc being pointed out of the screen as well, the range of 3D is not bad at all. There's also lots of CGI in the movie and that always looks better in 3D. Definitely worth picking up cheap.

The last 3D content I watched was Jerusalem

Since I'm never going to go there, this was the next best thing. Being made for IMAX, it looked very nice, with impressive depth and plenty of natural pop-out. Three photogenic young girls (one from each of the main religions) tell the viewer about their very separate lives in Jerusalem. Because the focus is on Old Jerusalem everything looks old and medieval - this impression is strengthened by watching all the various religious rituals the people there go through, you wonder is this what humanity has come to in the 21st century? It even ends on a note of hopelessness, I found it really depressing. Can't complain about the 3D, though I can complain about the region locking, it's something else that just seems outdated in this day and age.

I wholeheartedly agree. This is in the top tier of 3D BD. I was totally immersed in the movie. While the 2D is okay, it pales when watched in 3D. This movie is a must 3D.

On the subject of just watched 3D, I watched Jack the Giant Slayer last night. The movie is, at best, 3/5 stars. It really doesn't really get going until, well... you know, Jack goes up the beanstalk. While nothing special, it's a fun movie overall. The 3D has decent depth throughout, with very few pop-outs. It's a bit darker than the 2D. I thought it could have been a bit brighter. Being filmed in native 3D, I think they missed the opportunity to make it better. Overall, 3D adds to the viewing experience, but on a poor, fair, good, very good, excellent scale, I'd say it was just 'good'.

Sure the film brings the three girls together at the end, passing each other in the street, but it's not like they actually talked to each other or anything - I know it was meant to be hopeful but I found it depressing.

Last night I watched A History Of The World In Two Hours which I have in a box set:

For a start, the running time is just under an hour and a half, as presumably this ran with adverts on the Discovery Channel. There’s also a lot of repeated footage and the voiceover is constantly reminding you what you’re watching, it seemed pretty dumbed down compared to the German space documentaries I’ve been watching recently.

Having said that, at least I could follow everything, in the time available it did do a good job of tracking the history of the Earth from big bang to the current day.

So what’s the 3D like? DOA – depth only, alas. Not too bad for what it is but there’s no significant pop-out and the rapid-fire editing doesn’t help. The mix of CG (some of it looking rather dated) and real footage gave my brain a bit of a workout but towards the end I was tiring of seeing the same shots over and over again. It’s been a while since I last watched them, but I remember being much more impressed with the other two films in the box (WWII in 3D and Titanic: 100 Years In 3D)

I’m really disappointed with Bryan Singer’s use of native 3D, he’s one of the most conservative directors using the format despite making fantastic films that are crying out for strong 3D. My expectations for X-Men Apocalypse are at zero.

I watched the excellent Mad Max Fury Road on 3D blu ray, having already seen it theatrically (also in 3D)

I appreciated the 3D more at home where (ending aside) the pop-out was more noticeable - it's not the strongest conversion it could have been but it looks very nice nonetheless, which serves to make the film rock just that little bit harder. I can't see myself ever wanting to watch this in 2D.

Watched Beowulf 3d, and it rocks! beautiful imagery, good pop-out effect, and great depth.. Must see! Up next, Abraham Lincoln Vampire hunter 3d! Sidenote: I so wish that the Last Witcher was given the royal 3d treatment...

I thought Shark Night's 3D was weak above water but excellent underwater. It's nothing compared to Sex and Zen Extreme Ecstasy though, that one's a classic...

Default The last 3D Blu-ray you Bought or Watched Thread

Does anybody know whether this release of Sex and Zen is 3D or 2D? I bought this one on Ebay, but the details on this site only describe this as 2D.

I am 90% certain it is 2D because I found the Hong Kong 3D release. I will just sell off this one and recoup part of the cost.

Finally got to watching Pan. I thought the movie was pretty good...despite critic reviews. 3D was really good. Great depth and dimension as well as detail. Some really nice visual action scenes that was aided and benefitted by the 3D. The 3D is a great watch but I would watch this in 2D as well because as I said the movie itself was pretty good.

this movie was designed with 3d made in mind, and it shows, it really does.

there's one movie i wish it would be on blu ray 3d and that movie would be the ant bully, i found something really interesting yesterday in a form of a cover art: http://www.movies.wikia.com/wiki/File:Warner_Home_Video_-_The_Ant_Bully_Blu-ray_3D_cover.png

Just watched The Walk. I watched it yesterday in 2D with my son (who is not a 3D fan) and made note of a few spots that I thought would look great in 3D. Of course, they just couldn't bring themselves to have any pop-outs. Disappointed again. Some good depth shots here and there....yippee.
