Plus they own Skinemax for God's sake.

Because I like know I'm going to get my slipcover, digibook, etc in great condition. We have Prime and it can be hit or miss when it comes to movies. Same with Disney Movie Club. Both of them put things in a bubble envelope instead of a box. Sorry, but if I am giving you my money for your inventory and shipping, lock it down like Fort Knox.
Had that problem twice in a decade. Both times I got a perfect replacement no problem. Guess I have been lucky.

Steedeel, the Disc Like Quality argument for Digital HD is getting old. Now with the proper set up and Bandwidth, PQ and Sound are very close to Disc and soon it will be Negligible. As for buying Discs OnLine, that market is drying up too because no one is buying Discs anymore except people like you and Collectors. There are also the D2D buyers that want to increase their Digital HD Collection.

You really need to look at some numbers. Do you know how big a chunk of the market Blu-ray, DVD and 4K is? The home cinema market fanatics know 4K disc is the ONLY way to get the very best, cleanest, sharpest quality into their homes. That is not a claim, it’s a fact. Digital leaves us wanting in the video and audio department. It will be a long time before streaming can match 4K disc. It will always be trailing. Sure, your equipment probably won’t make the most of 4K disc but many of us have projectors and for movie night, Digital ain’t cutting it. I don’t do substitutes and ‘good enough’. 4K, 3D whatever, the best way to view all of that is that shiny disc my dancing pixel, banding, mega compressed audio loving buddy!

I can't comment on the quality of digital copies because I have never used them. There are still a lot of us out in the hinterlands who have crappy internet service. Relying on it to watch a movie is agonizing.

I know disc sales are declining, but they are still robust enough that I can get my hands on almost anything I want. Physical discs can become a niche just so long as it remains a viable option.

I am not bothered by those with a different preference than mine. I can get what I want and you can get what you want; it's all kumbaya to me.

If a day comes when I can't get my little 5 inch discs, then I will be disappointed. I still won't buy digital, but I will be entertained just the same.

The article re: Apple's content not having any sex or violence in it is only talking about their original content. If that's their choice, then fine. Other channels and studios do that, too. If it's sanitized but still funny/emotional/scary/exciting for enough people to make it successful, it will continue. If not, they'll have to adjust. The audiences will decide.

As far as editing other content, that would require studio complicity and in a few cases, artists who have contractual authority over the cuts of their films that are released. Apple, and the movie studios, are in the business of making money. They like money. I could see them providing additional "clean" cuts of some films and have read where someone is already doing that (I can't remember who), but the studios and Apple won't censor the films just for the sake of censorship. That will shrivel their customer base and hurt financially.

And before you say it - the Star Wars original cuts are going to be re-released someday. There's too much money to be made. Disney and Fox will strike another deal, you can bet your house on it. I could easily seem them as digital-only releases for a while, as a way to encourage consumer migration to the digital platforms that all the studios want customers to move towards, anyway.

I read some articles about Apple going into the TV show business. To be very fair; their aim to become a player in this market is really tame compared to other competitors like Amazon, Netlfix & HBO. Apple are probably going into the TV show business for people who are part of their fan base; i.e. people who buy into Apple products. Their first new show is called Planet of The Apps which is for a certain audience in the Reality TV market, in this case, it's for people who work in the I.T. industry or technology enthusiasts. This type of show by Apple may or may not be available on physical media because I think Apple fans wouldn't want that to happen. I would say that Planet of The Apps will become an Apple exclusive on their own products & services & no more.

It was noted by Bloomberg in their opinion piece that TV shows from Apple may complement other streaming services. I am not expecting any big hitmakers coming from Apple because their offering is expected to be tame as it's part of their own strategy in the first place.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...posite-of-edgy

Other services like Amazon, Netflix & HBO really have nothing to worry about creating their own shows in Drama because the shows they produce suit their own market demographic. Amazon have done something similar before with The Grand Tour being released on Amazon Prime video. Although that move was a highly publicized one in the media because the BBC sacked Jeremy Clarkson from Top Gear while he punched his former producer Oisin Tymon. Richard Hammond & James May tagged along to Amazon with Jeremy to eventually make that show extremely popular to a large worldwide audience. I am not sure if Amazon have plans to produce more shows of the nature that Apple are currently vying to make for their audience.

I am not sure how it will affect movies though. I'm a bit confused on that front.

Apple also turned the Carpool Karaoke skit into a series so that shows they are aiming for the most casual of the casual.

Apple's content ambitions seem tame compared to the dollars they're supposedly wanting to spend on it. I was hoping for something awesome like Amazon's The Man in the High Castle, not Planet of the Apps.

The main reason Tim Cook/Apple want U/PG content is that they want to be able to show their own content to people in their stores so that they buy the ATV. I also wouldn’t be surprised if they give some stuff away at least to start with, depending on any new subscription service they come up with. They’re looking at handful of shows to start with - like Randian says it’s all pretty tame, and very unlikely to be a market leading force.

I don't think I've ever known someone to be a melodramatic as much as Steedeel is.

Carpool Karaoke was the first attempt. Since then, they have hired Sony executives, C4 (UK) guys and put 1 billion into the project. They realise their first two shows were not successful.
As for the ‘catering to the fans’ I don’t agree. I am a huge Apple fan but I like edgy content, cutting edge if you like. A great many Apple fans are probably near my age (42) and don5 want to be watching tame, afternoon stuff.

It’s amazing how many really trashy/reality tv shows get big audiences though.i can imagine a clean reality show pulling in younger fans. They are obsessed with celebs on YouTube etc..

Movies? Expect something like The a Martian but with swearing, far less threat, no injury detail and way more humour. In other words a PG version.

Alchav knows the truth deep down, that’s why he is trying to convince himself otherwise.

The thing about my posts is, surely I can only be labelled melodramatic if what I said doesn’t come to pass.
