Well, I was thinking this more so because of their UK release this month than anything else, as that is exactly how Ran and Contempt went down with Optimum/Studio Canal/ Kinowelt releasing their versions.

Yeah, this StudioCanal thing is gonna really gash the Criterion Collection. In addition to the titles announced today and previously OOP titles (Nights of Cabiria, Third Man), there are many more potential titles that StudioCanal control under current license to Criterion, including but not limited to:

The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie
Bid Deal on Madonna Street
Diary of a Chambermaid
Billy Liar
That Obscure Object of Desire
Bob le Flambeur
Hopscotch
Le cercle rouge
Touchez pas au grisbi
The Proud Valley / Native Land (from Paul Robeson box)
Army of Shadows
Last Year at Marienbad
The Man Who Fell to Earth

I understand SudioCanal is trying to rebrand themselves to the collector market with the StudioCanal Collection, but it still hurts the Criterion fanboy in me.

Got my replacement cases in today!
I ordered on December 25th.
I only payed for 6, but they sent me 7.
I got an extra Last Metro case, which will be good, now I can use it for the custom Ben Button.

Very strange then, that they can agree on this one title (and the SC BD is Region AB at that).

It must have been a recent enough of a contract that it simply will expire later than those announced today.

Ah crap, I was hoping that Criterion would release those Buñuel titles on BD sometime so I could buy them....anything released by StudioCanal/LionsGate will be, a the most, a rental for me.

so unless you just want the Criterion sd version I personally would just wait on the blu.
I happen to already have that one, but probably will sell it when the UK or US blu comes out.
Personally I just can't see spending the $$ to get sd versions of titles when blu versions could be coming in the next year.
now if I knew exactly which titles were going to stay sd only I would buy those for sure.
I would imagine the blu for Peeping Tom will not be coming out, at least not from Criterion. It isn't on their release schedule before the end of March, and they lose the rights to it after that.

Wouldn't be the first time they were working on a blu and lost the rights, that's basically what happened with Ran if I'm understanding everything I've read.

Unless you meant it is confirmed as being worked on in Blu-Ray form by not-Criterion, in which case I apologize for misunderstanding your post.

I'd buy Peeping Tom on blu, but no desire to own it on DVD. I have seen it, and think it's great, but I don't have the urge to own the DVD.

I think Peeping Tom has been confirmed as a StudioCanal blu-ray, not Criterion.

Looks like many of you knew, but I wanted to put up the official e-mail.
I've got nearly all of them, waiting for the Pierrot le fou Blu-ray edition to arrive every second, minute, hour, day, week...

Will be picking up GRAND ILLUSION and DIARY OF A COUNTRY PRIEST.

Just bumped to the top of nexflix TALES OF HOFFMANN, TRAFIC, THE SMALL BACK ROOM, CLEAN SLATE, and FORBIDDEN GAMES.....the other ones I have either seen and did not want, or have not seen be did not really interest me.

Another thing, I have not picked up any Eclipse sets yet. Dont really know about the flamenco trilogy, but how many people here do get the Eclipse sets? What ones do you have? and what do you think of the Eclipse line. I understand there are no extras and the PQ & AG are below what they put out for their regular releases.

Yay! Got my third batch of Criterion Blu's today - Che, 8 1/2 and Benjamin Button. Hope 8 1/2 is as good as so many think it is.

For the people who are wanting to get Alphaville that don't already have it, I would wait for a StudioCanal release because there is no features on the Criterion dvd, plus a StudioCanal blu would be best. I also saw A Woman is a Woman will might get a StudioCanal release soon as well.

I myself don't care who has the rights as long as Godard films are coming to blu, I am happy.

I have 12 of the Eclipse sets, and I'm always clamoring for more of them to be released because it gives lesser known films a chance to make their way onto DVD in the USA. Yes, there aren't any extras and the PQ & AQ aren't restored, but who cares? Who else in the USA is releasing all of these films with extras and better PQ & AQ? The answer is NOBODY. The Eclipse line is a treasure trove of films that need our attention. And most of the Eclipse sets are quite the value package, as well, with most of them having 3 to 5 films at a $10 per disc or less price tag depending on where you are looking. The past two Barnes & Noble 50%-off Criterion sales were a good opportunity for picking up Eclipse sets.

Why are you so upset with your "mad" face, Chad? The current Barnes & Noble sale doesn't include every single DVD and/or blu-ray in their inventory, so I don't know the reason for being so glum, chum. I know you're a bit younger, but life doesn't always give us what we want and when we want it, right?
