Yep, now the other thing I like about the HSU sub is the variable tuning capability.

Ah yes, I went back and looked at the description a little more in detail and you are correct Steve, it does indeed have variable port tuning for customized output. I stand corrected..

40$ 50 watts more basically i don't see much more difference than that Mike it's your call as I said win win situation.

I can say I love the sound of my Arcam but I will have to do my firmware update.

Default A sad day for Energy Fans

Looks like Audiovox is going to drag Energy's name through the mud by slapping it's name on lesser products in the hopes of selling them.

Some people over at avs caught this.

These are Jamo's with Energy's name slapped on them.

This is a rebadged Athena system.

http://www.amazon.com/Energy-Package.../dp/B004J2JU42

Even the reviews suck for this one.

Looks like Energy is no longer going to be the respected name it once was.

Even the Subs now are starting to look alike Klipsch entry level huge cost cutting there and no true seperate entities. Really sad if you ask me.

Well Olivier, there is one issue that makes me think the Outlaw might have a slight advantage. Not only does it have 100 watts more power but the ports are on the bottom instead of the back like the HSU, which would seem to be better for placement options. although, in my situation I really only have 1 option for placement and that is in the front left corner next to my left front speaker where my current sub it located. I guess I'm answering my own question, it might not matter after all.

I thought Athena's were always kind of a sub-Energy brand. I don't know anything about the Jamo's but I don't like the trend of Energy not being Energy any more but in name only.

I wonder if thats a sign that audiovox will phase out Jamo products by integrating them into Energy s product line, at least in the US where energy is more well known than jamo.

This is exactly what everyone feared when Audiovox bought Klipsch.

If you can wait a little, Outlaw seems to put their subs on sale every few months. Sale price for the Plus is usually $467 shipped. Last sale was around the beginning of June... should be due for another sale soon.

Default Energy RC50

Today in spare time i happened to audition Wharfdale 10.6, MS Aviono 6, Quad's XX paired with CA CDP and Yamaha AVR / CA Int Amp (70wpc) / Attol Int Amp (80wpc) / Marantz Int Amp (70 wpc) in a accoustically treated room. Till today i never relaized how lucky I am to own RC-50.

Tracks Played were Money for Nothing - Dire Straits, Hey You - Pink Floyd and some other Classics.

Mannnn. Was i listening to music?? They were good in detailing but where were the dynamics, the deep base, appealing mids and smooth highs ?? I know audio is subjective and I am no audiophile but i could still point out so many differences. Many things seemed to be lost and missing.

Thanks for that info Kali. I'm still wavering back and forth between them, and I realize there will probably be very little discernible difference between them, but the extra power and down firing ports sound appealing to me after reading some comments on the Outlaw. It's going to be a while before I'm ready so I'll be keeping my eye on both. When I'm ready I'll probably just pull the trigger on the one that's cheaper.

So your current processor as good as Rotel is is a bit dated isn't it, I read it does not the latest HD codecs.

Donald what about the Rotel 1570? I have not tried it but if you are a Rotel fan Why not?

My AVR400 can make an excellent prepro even if it's alredy amplified.

For your music room, Id suggest that if you want a pre-amp look at the Naim NAC 152 XS $1950. However you could always just get a Naim Nait 5i Integrated Amp $1645, the 5i is a very powerful 50 watt IA.

Actually, I wouldn't blame Audiovox. Klipsch had already started this well before Audiovox purchased them, and even though Audiovox bought out The Klipsch Group they are letting Klipsch to continue to be operated separately. The people who have been running The Klipsch Group are still the ones running the show over there, but yeah the blending of the lines started a good while ago.

Athena, Mirage, and Energy were already part of the same company when Klipsch bought them out years ago which is why a lot of these products have become similar in recent years. Most notable are the Energy and Mirage subs, and if you've noticed the newer Klipsch subs have very similar designs. It doesn't surprise me that they would re-brand or even re-position some products for certain markets where the original name has little recognition.
