It's a factory error I guess. The artwork is upside down and sealed. So it was some kind of malfunction at the factory. I thought it was odd to see that. I've never gotten a blu, sealed that had the artwork upside down like that. LOL!!

My main problem with The Dark Knight Rises is the score. There are various scenes where the editing could have been better and the score could have been made to match the visuals better to invoke the emotion that the scene requires.

I know that this is a long post but please indulge me as I would really like to hear your thoughts.

Take the 'Light It Up' scene for example. The editing could have been better and tighter. Here's what happens in the movie :
1)John Blake tries to rescue the officiers;officier gets shot and Blake gets pushed down. (Another minor thing that I noticed here is the cut from Blake falling to a zoomed out shot of the same thing from the same angle..Seemed odd to me. It's a very minor issue but the least they could have done was use another angle or not have the zoom-out jump cut.)

CUTS TO

2)Gordon and the others walking on ice and Batman coming to the rescue followed by lighting the Bat signal on fire.

CUTS TO

3)Blake being saved by Batman.

ORIGINAL SCENE:

I edited the scene and changed the score as well..

MY EDIT:

I intercut Gordon's and Blake's scenes to show them both at their lowest lows rather than have them as two separate segments. I changed the music as well.

Explanation for the editing and the music I used for this scene :

The slow tempo Piano notes signify Blake holding on to the last few remaining fragments of hope as he begins to rescue the officers. The piano notes show naivety and child-like innocence of Blake as he still thinks that all is not lost and that it can still be fixed even though everything and everybody around him tells him otherwise.
As the officer is shot, the soaring trumpet showcases the obliteration of those last fragments of hope. Blake is held at gunpoint by multiple targets.

-CUT TO-

Gordon and the other officers also held at gunpoint as shots are fired into the air. This cut showcases the similarity of the dire predicament that both parties are in.

-CUT TO-

Bane's person throwing a grenade underground killing the officers as he questions Blake. With every cut, the situation becomes worse for both parties as the trumpets continue signifying despair and loss.

-CUT TO-

Gordon and his officers being forced onto the ice.

-CUT TO-

Blake being pushed down. Again, a similarity in both sequences.

-CUT TO-

Gordon and the others walking on the ice facing death head-on. The intensifying music also showcases this.

-CUT TO-

Blake getting grabbed and pushed around.

Music intensifies further as both parties come to the realisation that they are actually going to die and that they've failed to protect Gotham. Both parties have hit their lowest lows as they come to a realisation of "This is it...it's over..".

-CUT TO-

Gordon looking at something.

-CUT TO-

Shot of flare on the ice as the violin starts at a fast tempo signifying blossoming hope.. The rate at which this hope fills them up is shown by the tempo of the violin.

-CUT TO-
One of the guards getting hit by something on his neck. The audience nor guard know what it is.

-CUT TO-
Gordon picking up the flare.
The music in this shot and the scene above showcases a sense of mystery in not knowing what's happening and how it's going to go from here.

-CUT TO-
Guard picking out what hit him and sees that the dart is in the shape of the bat. Trumpets soar and the drums kick in as hope slowly starts to flow in.

-CUT TO-
A zoom-in into Gordon's face as he comes to the same realisation as the audience. Music becomes more hopeful.

-CUT TO-
Other guards falling after being hit by darts. Music continues to build up..

-CUT TO-
Gordon lighting the flare as Batman finally emerges out of the darkness. Music swells with the full orchestra kicking in. (In the original movie, Gordon is told by Batman to light the flare. In my edit, Gordon lights the flare without being told. Instead, I used that line in the next scene. IMO, the scene has more impact when we actually see Batman emerge out of the shadows rather than hear his voice first.)
Batman tells Gordon to 'light it up' as he throws the flare. We as the audience, still don't know what Batman is talking about as the fuel starts to ignite..

-CUT TO-
Blake on his knees with all hope lost as he accepts his fate.

-CUT TO-
Fuel continuing to ignite as the fire rises up the bridge.

-CUT TO-
Foley's son showing his dad something outside through the window.

-CUT TO-
Bane seeing something and reacting by saying 'Impossible' as he slightly fills with fear.

-CUT TO-
A shot of Foley's face showing hope after seeing something outside..

We as the audience still don't know what all these people are reacting to as the music continues to build up..

-CUT TO-
Blake opening his eyes (I reversed the shot of him closing his eyes) and seeing what everybody else had reacted to..

-CUT TO-
A giant burning bat sign on the bridge..
This builds up the ultimate reveal much better IMO as we see it at the same time Blake does.

-CUT TO-
Upon seeing that, Blake leaps into action followed by a shot of Batman dropping behind.
The music erupts with the orchestra and the choir..
I edited and spliced together Blake and batman fighting to make Blake's fight a bit longer rather than him simply standing and watching Batman fight for a really long time. Batman's fight also flows better as the original was a single shot of him fighting for a long time.

As the scene ends, the music calms down..I used Blake's "You missed a spot" line as a curtain to seamlessly blend the music together.

Rest of the scene is the same.

What do you guys think?

I have to agree. It was handled amazingly. From dialogue to the actual fight. It brought tears to my eyes.

I totally forgot that I preordered two copies of the Target exclusive, so I was quite surprised when TWO free copies arrived on my doorstep today. I had already bought a copy in store, not expecting Target to provide a copy of their exclusive. Must've cost them a pretty penny to give away all of those free copies to customers who preordered with them.

just looks like you have put together a trailer, if that edit was in the film it would be so confusing as batman just appears in the fight seen with levit, Not good i'm afraid, prefer the original directors edit.

I don't want to see people starting to re-work these films just because they've learned to utilize these options at home, or at work.

The movie is just fine, Sir Peter Jackson.

The biggest problem with The Dark Knight Rises is definitely the editing. I noticed that issue too where Blake gets caught by Bane's henchman, Batman saves Gordon and then he somehow saves Blake immediately after saving Gordon. Very shoddy editing, in my opinion. It doesn't flow well.

And it's not the only case of bad editing in the film either... but I don't wanna go off on a rant. Still a great movie.

There's also the fact that three scenes involving Miranda near the end are out of order.

Really? Damn I didn't notice that... I'm sure it's true though. The editing in The Dark Knight was also shoddy.
