I am confused he looking for an AV processor or a preamp section for music?

I do like your ideas for music, Naim with some Reference connoisseur should actual;ly make them sound fantastic.

The models he was talking about had to do with his music setup.

Right on so Naim 5i with those RC-30 would be awesome.

Picked up a Pioneer Elite SC-35 over the weekend! Can't wait until it arrives to really put my RC-LCR's to the test.

Is anyone still looking for an RC-LCR? I saw a few black ones, brand new in the box, for $315. Free shipping too. Excellent price for those.

Ok, so I got the new receiver in place and ran it through it's paces.

Wow. I never realized how much punch the RC-LCR's have. When playing a CD in stereo mode, the bass punch from those twin 5 1/2" woofers is better than I've ever heard out of them before. There's much more clarity as well, as sounds I never recognized prior are now evident. The blending of low, mid-range and highs is noticeably smoother. I'm a very happy camper.

@ Callas & Big Al - Any tips for getting the most out of this system? I replaced my older Monster speaker wires with some 14 awg oxygen-free wires and gold plated banana plugs. I'm also considering Bi-Wiring the fronts. Since all three front speakers are the same, can all three be bi-wired or just the left and right?

Congrats bluray, you thought it sounded good before eh? I had the same experience when I went from my old 1990's Onkyo to the Integra. It was like night and day. Running audyssey really made a nice difference as well, once I learned how to use it properly.

Yeah, moving up the SC line will help you to get the most out of pushing those drivers. With the Oppo I think you are going to be getting the most out of your system. If you listen to a lot of music on CD, then you could get a DAC and connect it from your Oppos Optical Out to the DAC and then with Interconnects to the Pioneer and play your CDs in pure direct mode, then that might help to improve the sound of CDs.

You can bi-wire, personally, I don't think there is any real benefit, but some think its cool. Heck, the Dyns I have only have one set of binding posts because they build such high quality crossovers, they don't think bi-wiring will offer any added benefit.

+1 Even Totem first Model One did not have the second set of binding post I think they just broke under the pressure of some customers who thinks it benificial, even passive by amping has no serious benefit unless your apms lack power sure you can send some power to both binding posts so each drivers gets more watts but a good amp connected with one set of binding post is just as good and cheaper. Now Active Bi-Amping can be benificial but if your speakers are wired with great X-overs, there is no purpose to do so.

I remember finding a good article on Active by-amping somewhere, Steve do you recall where this was? It was also talking about differences about bi-wiring and passive bi-amping.

Yeah after reading up in Big Daddy's threads I've determined that the bi-wiring is not going to happen. No need.

But now I'm having issues with crackling in playback and I also am having trouble with volume. Grrr...

OMG things we do not wish to hear after getting a brand new unit, my first Arcam unit actually had an issue with the right surround stopped playing like halfway through the first movi I watched.

Hopefully this can be resolved quickly.

Holy crap...now the sub won't work.

I would say it's probably something I did (or didn't do) but...for the life of me I can't imagine it being anything but the unit itself. I was up until midnite last night double and triple checking everything. I even reset the entire system. Its almost as though the amp doesn't work.

Well I'm convinced it's the unit now. I tried resetting the system again and then ran the calibration mic setup. It tried to set most of the channel levels to +12.

It's as though the unit was trying to over compensate for not being able to hear the test signals by boosting the channel levels. When the test signals were played during the calibration, they were not smooth and even like they should be. The sound was really raspy. Definitely a bad unit.

Fortunately I can return it for a refund. Unfortunately, I have to. I really was looking forward to enjoying the unit. I'll have to keep my eyes open for another.

Default Pioneer 1021

Looking to buy Pioneer 1021K to run 5.1 HT with RC50, LCR, CB5 Surr and BIC V1020. Would the power of 1021 suffice for the HT use. This year 1021 model is 580W on consumption as compared to last year 1020 model with 245W.

Please give your suggestions since 1021 does not have Pre Outs.
I did not like the Marantz 5005 sound with RC's. I understand Denon would sound the same.

Auditioned Onkyo 609 which was good for movies but fatigue in music. Yamaha 671 sounded a litlte thinner than Pioneer's.

I like that they increased the power, and if you like the sound. go for the Pioneer.

Default Home theater set up Help Please

I'm buying my first decent speaker set up, but am still new to this whole thing. I am going for either a 7.1 or 7.2 speaker set up for a bedroom/studio for mostly PS3 gaming, movies, tv, and occasional work out music.

So far I have a new Yamaha RX-V667 Receiver, (2) CB-5 speakers for $60, and (2) CF-30's for $150 each.

I plan on getting another pair of CB-5's, I'm not sure for a sub (but I heard it doesn't need to be the same line), and either a CC-10 or C-C50 for a center. Any thought's on if this will work out? Also any feedback on the CC-10 vs. C-C50 or a sub would be much help. As well as any info on a specific wall mount for the CB-5's and a specific good wiring to hook up this system to the receiver. I'm basically buying all the good deals I've been seeing. Thanks for any help.

... I also got am deciding between the BIC AMERICA F12 for around a $150 or the BIC PL-200 for $279?
