I just opened a can of worms

Typically an unbalanced RCA connection is 2 volts so if the output of your receiver is 2 volts then it will sound great with RCA cables and honestly I don't think you need balanced connectors.

Audioquest on their site they have both types of connectors for the same cable so you can order Diamondback with RCA (unbalanced) or with XLR (balanced for example. XLR are mostly used with professionnal audio equipement but you can use them if you want to run long cables they are a must. Short quality RCA cables can be almost as good as XLR (balanced cables).

http://www.audioquest.com/

XLR is the connector type typically found for balanced conection but their are others. THe outlaw does have an xlr connector as well as RCA (unbalanced)

http://pdf.outlawaudio.com/outlaw/docs/2200manual.pdf

Single ended typical RCA cable are standard analog cables.

How lomg do you need to run from the receiver to the amp?

Less than 10 feet just go with standard RCA. I dont see the point of this as your outlaw supports both connectors.

It could be nice to amplifify the center, it's your budget and your money, for sure it could benefit from it.

Id suggest that you don't get these, just get high quality RCA cables. Audioquests are good and affordable. You could also look at Anti-cable and Bluejeans cables. I think theyll all be about the same price.

Default RC50 Tweeter Crossover

Right from the begining I thought one of my RC-50 speaker was having problem with its Tweeter.

So I did all the possible tests. Different AVR, Different Stereo Amps, Change of Wires, etc. With no change in output, I thought Tweeter was blown or not working properly. So i swapped the tweeters on both speakers.

To my surprise, Tweeter is working absolutely fine on other speaker. Only problem now seems is Crossover Network. So I just got new Crossover Network.

My question is:
Since it is difficult to unscrew old crossover and replace it, I am planning to use new crossover only for Tweeter Section and NOT Woofer driver section.

Connections would be this way:
1.AVR -> Speakers with 12G wire (Output will go to both Terminal, Lower and Upper with help of provided straps)

2.Inside the speaker, Lower (Woofer) Terminal will be connected to OLD crossover which in turn will be connected to Woofer 1 and Woofer 2. (Two Wires of OLD crossover viz Going to a)Upper Terminal and b)Tweeter will sit idle in the speaker)

3.Inside the speaker, Upper (Tweeeter) Terminal will be connected to NEW crossover which in turn will be connected to TWEETER only. (Three Wires of NEW Crossover viz Going to a)LowerTerminal, b)Woofer 1 and c)Woofer 3 will sit idle in the speaker)

I think this should work absolutely fine but just to confirm if I am not going to miss on any fequencies.

Thanks

Why not re-wire everything to the new x-over? it is pretty simple and will guarentee proper operation. Of course you could leave the old one there.

Only issue I see is that I will be placing the crossover at the bottom of the speaker since i do not see any other convenient place and the wires provided alongwith Crossovers are very short to reach till the woofer 1 & 2. Even for Tweeters, I will have extend them.

hello all,

saw a deal on a pair of Paradigm Monitor 7 v.5. thinking about changing my energy cr30s. i do love the energy speakers. my wife is setting up a lounge in the back room & she agreed to put music in the rooom. i think the cr30 are smaller than the paradigms. paradigms for 2-channel only. energys will be hooked up to a yamaha reciever. what do you think?

You dare to compare the RC-30 vs the Monitor 7 V5. Musicality wise the RC wins hands down, not even close. I have not time to elaborate on the subject and I am taking position on this but if you like the Monitor better than it should be your choice.

You are comparing apples to oranges here, compare the RC-30 to a Studio but not the Monitor.
