As to the cases and bells and whistles, I just don't care. The film is first. The features, when commentary or little interviews are a possibility, make a huge difference. The slip can be a wonderful addition to a release. But, all in all, the film beats all. VS doesn't slip all releases and my favorites from them, with a couple of exceptions, didn't have slips. So, light up eyes and whatnot are a bonus, not the reason I'm going to buy, and I am going to buy, since the restorations are turning out so nicely and the new films.

The live feed discussed some upcoming Dark Force releases. Point Doom is in replication (good news for me) and Mirror Mirror is coming along. They discussed Dead Pit as well, which I believe was pressed last month, but they are finishing up the box/case. It looks like both Point Doom and Dead Pit will be out before Mirror Mirror can be released, but, remember, MM is shaping up to be one with some extra features, detailed in a prior live feed, and that can take some time.

The possibility of a Memorial Day sale is still floating around so I'll put my vote in again for a pre-order package listing.

Almost forgot, David did talk about a reshuffling of the store in which he is going to move some of Code Red's OOP titles into an OOP section. That is pretty much what it sounds like. Right alongside New Products and Blu-rays, we'll have a dedicated OOP section.

So, I'm back to work. Everybody please try to be kind. Life's hard enough and all that.

Haven't seen this film, but the Roger Corman produced Humanoids from the Deep had a similar plot (ok, they were mutants, not aliens) and is quite terrific as a campy horror flick with tons of nudity and gore (a lot of which was apparently added after the official director Barbara Peeters signed off)

I love the new “screen grab” of Dead Pit on the DF Page. Why can’t he just ask someone with a computer to take a proper screenshot of the film that is actually representative of its picture quality. You know, like everyone else. It’s just a picture of a flat screen from 12 feet away and is hardly useful to determine anything.

This is an odd thing to say, as though that's new for me, but, if I had a label and didn't trust myself to notice all the flaws (I would notice them but I'm pretty well recognized as too forgiving), then I would get someone like him to analyze the discs in exchange for those free copies, so I could advertise accurately.

I do think based on Dead Pit having been Bill's title and acquisition and the DVD before it having already been analyzed for content, we kind of know what to expect. The only thing up in the air is Mbps/disc-space, or, rather, whether the pressing plant screwed up the encode (like that one plant did to Walt on David & Lisa, when he had worked so hard to get it right, only to have them cost him a ton of money with stupid mistakes they could easily have avoided making). The plant can completely destroy a release, as we all know, so David should try to post some info on the encode once he has it. Remember, MMII had a ridiculously high quality encode, at the level of a Marvel movie, so we know he at least goes into it looking for the higher quality, on the restored releases. Whether the plant follows through or not....

The pressing plant does not do the encode. That is guy with two kids.

I could've sworn it was a guy at the plant who had set something wrong, leading to that 13 mbps, or whatever it was, that gave us a Blu which can't even compare to the quality of the digital streaming version. Thanks for the information. In any case, the larger point is, sometimes a label owner wants something spectacular and one mistake screws up the whole release, a mistake he didn't even make in the first place. I've never felt so sorry for Walt as I did when that was discovered. It was a horrible, horrible error and they still practically can't give that disc away. (The digital looks nice though, as his restoration was beautiful.)

As to David, we all get angry sometimes, when we get overloaded by all the needling or arguing. He just needed to cool off. It can be tempting to argue, even for me. What matters more, as to the label, is that some nice releases are on the horizon. I figure if DD could track down Harvest for a new interview, maybe someone can track down Jenny Wright and finally get some new interview footage, dare I say a commentary, for a Near Dark remastered Blu. Pasdar and Wright on a commentary, given they've both led interesting lives, would be gold. So, back to Dark Force, I'm looking forward to anything Rainbow Harvest has to say. She too has opted for more than one career, making for a more interesting story to tell.
