Infernal Affairs (2002) - 10/10

A great cop thriller. Makes The Departed look like an amateur remake

The histoical accuracy and relevance to todays sociatal and economic troubles are mindboggling and visionary.

It will be another 40 to 60 years before someone makes a film as important as 10,000 BC.

I think I'm going to go just above meh with a mmhmm.

I suppose that would equate to a 7/10.

Yea, like jhiggy mentioned earlier, I had reservations about this but was pleasantly surprised when I caught it on a local cable channel so afterwards I bought it off of Amazon. And I agree about your opinion on Gavin Rossdale. I just wish that he had a larger part in the film. I would also be interested in a sequel but I have a feeling that it would not measure up to the first one.

My favorite line from the film:

Angela Dodson: I guess God has a plan for all of us.
John Constantine: God's a kid with an ant farm, lady. He's not planning anything.

Got to watch a ton of movies this weekend:

"I Am Legend." Of the three movies based on the original novel, I like this one the best (didn't care for "The Last Man on Earth," and I enjoy "The Omega Man" but find it rather dated). This rendition has its share of smashing special effects and action, but it's the character and his emotions that I find particuarly strong. 4/5

"Twister." This must be the billionth time I've seen this film, and I almost know it by heart. It's a wonderful adventure with cool special effects (a little outdated, but still decent), a number of good lines (ie, "We gotta get off this road..."), and some lighthearted humor. Characters and story are fun. The romantic drama sideplot is a little frivilous perhaps, but I find it interesting anyway. 4/5

"The Fantastic Four." A really fun superhero flick; maybe not terribly intelligent, but the action/special effects are swell, the characters are likable, and I like the comedy. 4/5

"The Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer." About as much fun as the first film, but notably shorter and weaker. It's great to see the Silver Surfer in action, and some of the comedy is fun. 3/5

"The Animatrix." A fine collection of various animated shorts; "Final Flight of the Osiris" is still probably the best CGI animation I've seen (even after seven years!); "The Second Rennaisance" is downright scary and depressing; "Kid's Story" is one I never cared for, but I like some of its imagery; "Program" is freaking awesome; "World Record" is funky and slick; "Beyond" is wonderful; "Detective's Story" looks good but is the one I like the least; "Matriculated" is really far-out. I love the feature as a whole, for all shorts feature strong graphics and interesting stories. 5/5

"The Matrix." My third-favorite film; I've come to love everything about it. The action is still smashing; the special effects are still mostly awesome. Characters are strong, the story is solid, and the photography is excellent. Every time I see the movie, I notice different things; this time around, I could definitely make out more details on the Blu-Ray (like when Neo awakens in the real world, there's more slime on him than I ever noticed before! Moreover, I can now see the brand name on the TV they use in the training program), and the movie got me thinking more and more about the themes of reality vs fantasy, the power of the human mind, destiny vs free will, and the nature of human (or perhaps inhuman) society. 5/5

"The Matrix Reloaded." Yeah, it's not perfect, but I really enjoy it anyway. They ramped up the action, special effects, and style really well (the car chase in this film is still my personal favorite of all car chases). They also introduced a lot more interesting ideas into the world of the Matrix films (such as the ideas of exiled programs, backdoors, viruses, etc), the production design (the city of Zion, the machine army, etc), and the themes (more about reality vs fantasy, destiny vs free will, etc). My only complaint is that the Architect's speech is so convoluted, when it's supposed to bring everything into a proper and sensical context. Years ago, I used the pause button on the DVD to fully absorb everything he said; it makes sense to me now, but I can see how others may find this scene really confusing. Were it not for that, I'd rate this movie a 4.5/5; but as it is, I'd give it a 4/5.

"The Matrix Revolutions." I love grand finales, and with the full-blown battle of Zion and the final fight between Neo and Agent Smith, I've always loved "Revolutions." I can understand how some folks hate it; the final resolution is a little weird. I like it best that way; if it ended with a typical Hollywood happy ending, I think it would have been way too contrived, probably more unbelievable, and certainly not as thought-provoking.
[Show spoiler]I like the fact that Neo and Agent Smith balanced each other out, rather than having one destroy another. The two characters were so much alike to begin with, only opposites with equal powers, and having them unite creates a harmonous whole. "It was inevitable!"
. 4.5/5 (more or less)

And the Blu-Rays on all of these look fantastic ("Twister" is probably the weakest one of the lot, but still looked decent; "The Matrix" saga impressed me greatly).

I think squid's post was a no-brainer. If someone didnt get it and thought that could possibly been a real take on that film, then I would feel sorry for that person. Camille Belle is a cutie however. Got Em!!

Jurassic Park - Finally watched this film for the first time. I knew all about it as it had a lot of hype and grossed a ton of doe at the box office. After viewing this film, yes it is a good movie. Its not as great as most would say as I am seeing this film 17 years after it came out. Also I have seen other films with great visuals on dinosaurs before I watched Jurassic Park like Kong Kong 2005. That played a part because now I am comparing those graphics to King Kong 2005 which is much newer and better technology. Thats not fair but thats how it is.With all that said I still take the year it was made into consideration and all in all I really enjoyed the film and can understand the hype back in 1993. 4/5 Got Em!!

The Godfather on AMC: 10/10

An epic masterpiece on so many levels. Marlon Brando's performance as Don Vito was my favorite.
