DVDEmpire has pictures of the back cover art for Ghostbusters and Spider-Man 1. They don't have Bonus Features, just like Sony's old SuperBit DVDs.

They should fix current, existing mistakes instead of creating new ones.

Wow, seriously Sony?

I held on to my bonus dvds for Spider-man 1 and 2, so I may still buy these just the same.

Spider-Man has always looked a bit crap on home formats and when I popped this disc in, I have to be honest, it didn't blow my skirt up.

"Is that it?" I thought.

HOWEVER...

Comparing it with the most recent UK issuing, the one with the extras and the same transfer as the original barebones disc, the differences become very apparent.

Just in terms of sheer clarity, resolution and color, the 4K disc is definitely an improvement. That mushy grain, mixed with video noise from the older releases, is gone. A nice layer of proper fine grain. It also appears to be a shade brighter, but with still solid black levels. I always found that they tried to hide some of the more questionable CGI in this movie by darkening it, (as per the original DVD). There's some extremely minor haloing going on here and there, but nothing to shit the bed over.

So unlike me, don't be fooled by initial impressions, this is the best this film has looked on home video.
Thanks for the quick review! Good to know there are some noticeable improvements in these releases even with older movies.
I didn't actually think Sam Raimi's Spider-Man was that good. Now I'm really curious to have a look myself.

Well, there is some controversy about whether that is actually true, but that is another thread from a long time ago. lol

There's just too many things going on with that disc which just isn't optimal.

I wish SONY would release 'Single White Female' and 'When A Stranger Calls' (2006) on Blu-ray already. I hope they do NOT pawn those off to Twilight Time.

Twilight Time is incredibly unlikely for either of those titles. It is much more likely for Sony to license them to Mill Creek though.

Check out the screen grabs I posted last Saturday in the Ghostbusters thread, it's definitely an improvement with no blownout contrast and finer grain.

I confirmed last Saturday that Ghostbusters was just the film?

Yes haven't bought Total yet in hope this will be fixed on the new disc. Would love Dracula also For someone who never get time to watch any extras these discs are perfect, best sound and picture is all I care about. Although they are too expensive right now for "old" movies.

This is just like the SuperBit DVD gimmick. Sony claims to be offering an enhanced experience by maxing out bitrates, but other studios do the same thing w/o charging higher prices.

So this entire "Mastered in 4k" line is movie-only, no special features?
