Titanic was exhilarating. So what if it takes some liberties with historical facts - Titanic isn't the first film that has done so. I saw it at least 4 times in theaters in '97 and '98 and each time it took my breath away. Magnificent filmmaking for people who aren't looking to educate themselves and just want to watch a great popcorn flick.

It's sad that people so casually dismiss hundreds of talented artist's hard work over parts of the story they don't agree with or because of an actor they don't like. Filmmakers don't deserve that kind of disdain. If someone is so easily offended or put off by artistic liberty why are they bothering with going to the movies to watch popular films?

Hey, sometimes observations aren't condemnations...I observe that Cameron's female protagonists all have the same voice, that's not a condemnation. Just that he is himself every one of his characters, which is kind of interesting. How many times has a Cameron female lead grabbed someone and shoved them against a wall or a floor while yelling at them? Even in Titanic. "I'm through being polite, god dammit!" That's King James. Not a criticism. An observation. Maybe Curtis in True Lies is the exception here. And Lindsay in The Abyss would have grabbed someone if Bud hadn't stopped her first...but all of his characters are him, male, female, whatever. They all talk like him, kinda act like him if you believe the set and post stories...just an observation.

And in Titanic, what was up with the, "I'll be goddamned" repeated line within minutes by two supposedly different characters who all sound like James Cameron?

There’s not many movies that don’t feel their runtime as Titanic has no filler and every scene adds to something. It’s only the attention spans that haven’t aged well for those who can’t be bothered watching a three hour film.
  • “The ship sinks”
  • “Movies too long.”
  • “Leo is too 90s.”
  • “It’s inaccurate”
  • “The romance is boring.”

I’ve heard them all and I’m bored of it all.
Lol dislike? It's called film criticism. These are merely observations.

You can still love a movie despite acknowledging some of its faults. Those things aren't mutually exclusive. It's not a perfect film, and it never was. Do I still love it and will continue to watch it until I'm no longer on this earth? Absolutely. And does DiCaprio's performance still leave something to be desired? Absolutely.

Depends on how whether you think of Avatar as a 2D or a 3D movie. https://www.slashfilm.com/503959/3d-...aspect-ratios/

I think of Avatar as a movie that was intended to be seen in 3D, and since the 16:9 ratio is the best format for that, it logically follows that the intended ratio was 16:9, since the scope version was just a crop for certain theaters.

Yet he chose to re-release it in 3D in 16:9 because he knew that was the better 3D presentation. In 2D I'd agree scope is probably the right aspect ratio as that is what he originally chose. It would be great to get both ratios on UHD but that's unlikely.

I really hope we get an open matte 4K for this - also hoping the same for the abyss which I believe Cameron is screening this week in LA ? Must be a good sign unless he is planning a limited theatrical release ?

Super 35 movies were meant to be PRINTED onto a 35mm ANAMORPHIC negative that it's SCOPE by definition...

The original Aspect ratio is 2:39.1, any other ratio is revisionism....

The only exception would be the dozen of 70mm blown-up prints Cameron paid for. But even those are 2.20:1

16:9 is out of the question....

I don't get the obsession of some people with open matte versions of scope films.

It doesn't make any sense to me to have 16:9 on the UHD since it's not capable of 3D. This isn't some IMAX film where the conscious decision was made to film and frame for a taller, more immersive ratio, this is a film that was designed for scope and was simply opened up to allow the 3D to have a stronger effect.

Titanic seems to have some of the highest amounts of "lazy arguments" that one can use to decipher if a person is capable or not of responding to cinema in an intelligent manner
